What went wrong?

Maybe one day it\'ll be on old ogre vs. new ogre duel!

We could even paint something if we wanted as well....

I guess for me it\'s the era of the era of the models that may do something to me on the subconcious level. I was working at the game store in those days making minimum wage and (insert sad tale of poverty here) so maybe this period of GW stuff just clicks with that mental stuff.

SOMEONE in support of these older crappier models needs to paint one up to tadays standard right quick to show how they look with newer and better paint jobs I think.

What\'s wrong with these minis already mentioned by Rev? :

OK they\'re over four years old, but they\'ve almost got every modern painting technique in them.

You\'re right about the painting technique. Wonderful stuff, and I forgot about the ones rev. had mentioned TBH, but STILL the color choice, style, the whole bit harkens back to a period of mini painting I\'d like to see swept under the rug for good and forever. Red, red everywhere red.

Def. not knocking the skill in either the sculpts of the models or for sure not the paint jobs on the models from yesteryear. It\'s just that I think todays painters could do a better job of those scuplts using more modern color choices etc. To each their own. NO! wait, can I officially request everyone think like me? Does Borg answer his eMails anymore?

Hestan, Radom, where the hell is the love for quirks! The recent Ogres look like they came from an airfix set. Come on people, show us the love! The whole era was pre-profit (okay, maybe not, but you know what I mean) and speaks of a time when it didn\'t cost a farking fortune to do what nowadays is a pricey hobby.

And that Demon-winning retinue is just a class above any painted Ogres from the new lot, give or take one or two. They\'re crap figures with a crap scheme.

But hey, differences are what makes us, well, different :D

I still wish there was some way to turn this into a contest to prove who was right. Just like they did in the old days! Y\'know, fight a war to see who\'s God was better? That always put the issue to rest.

Hmmmm..... maybe your people will have to rumble my people. \'Course my side of the fence right now is mostly myself and young Hestan (13 or 14 yrs now?) so just let me know when you want me to \"bring the noise\"!.

Truthfully I think I have a few of these kicking around, and as one off pieces they can look nice. But as a GW model I have been brainwashed to automatically put each GW model into the context of an army with the appropriate fluff and these old models just don\'t fit into my imaginationland game of warhammer anymore.

Enough said...

The new ogres are so unremittingly shite it\'s untrue. They look as though they were designed by a child with a ball of BluTac. Just appallingly bad.

They\'re possibly the worst figures GW have released since the turn of the century - and they\'ve released some proper cack in the last ten years!!

GW still manage to release the odd gem, but it seems to be more by luck than by judgement these days.

Indeed our own Genrulpoleaxe proved that.
I still have one of the \"Classic Ogres\" he generously donated to me.
Looks as if it might have to get some \"Loving from the W&N\'s\" to see what can be done.

Still love the new ogres. How do we settle this, can we have an eArm Wrestle?lol

Just one of those thingies.

DR-Well I got a soft spot for that particular sculpt truhtfully. And what can I say about the good generul\'s work? Nice and classy.

But as a rule, and I think you guys will universally agree with me...

new = good
old = bad

.....Right?

It\'s like comparing Terry Pratchett to Robert Jordan or George R.R. Martin. Both are good in their own right.

But to add fuel to the fire...

Personally I wouldn\'t waste paint on most of the old ogre sculpts. Some are characterful, but as the sculpting is on the level of a 3 year old ogre using chewed gum and a fork, I\'d rather spend my time on painting something that can actually look half decent in the end!

I\'ve got the 4 on the right but Reverend\'s already got dibs on them :D

Love these. The guy in the top middle won me a painting competition back in the day. I used to love the old empire units with lots of cut sleeves, extra sleves, pompus hats, lirepipes, etc.

Wrong in my opinion :D

I still love the old style ogres even the newish chaos ogres from the other year have more character and detail than the plastic ones, in fact I would go as far as to say that the old school ogres have a lot more detail than some of the plastic armies of today especially the plastic woodelves.

The plastic ogres although have good fluff the actual models themselves have always reminded me of fat men (bit like looking in th emirrow these days lol )

I was never that keen on the Marauder Ogres though some of their stuff was nice but I always felt as it they were trying to bring fanasy into history as they seemed to design a lot of their figures with the Landsknecht period in mind.

Wargriffon says it all. A collector as he is, his words are valuable. I\'ve seen his collection and I almost fell over. Amazing :D
