whatever happened to Golden Toadstools?

Can someone tell me whatever happened to the Golden Toadstools monthly contest and if there is a suitable replacement? As with all things that are cyclical, my painting of miniatures has recaptured my interest of late, and I was wondering where to go for friendly competition and advice.

I think the Golden Toadstools just kind of stopped due to apathy. Not too many folks participated and Glenn finally just gave it up there at the end.

It can be quite a grind to run these things behind the scenes.

I think Wyrd has a periodic contest called Iron Painter or something like that.....Have you ever tried that LavryinYor?

Ah, I still have my 'most improved' Reaper Golden Toadstool award sitting in a place of honor...collecting dust with all my other supplies and minis. lol

any input on rule changes you would suggest while there is a chance?

If I recall, the only rules were that the model had to be finished in the last 30 days, and some form of write up had to be included.

All right old timers, what if any were the other rules?

You pretty much nailed the rules as I recall them - it had to be something finished in the month of the contest, and in the interest of learning/sharing each painter did a write-up about their piece. I always enjoyed participating as the group was great about offering critiques and comments, and I even won a Most Improved award at one point.

Zaphod ran it, he might have a more complete rules list.

I have no objections to the contest being restarted however, a new gallery must be created I think as the one Terry had originally set up for me was ponderous and extremely glitchy for users. As it is in fact, my contest, I would be willing to "share" the moderating responsibilities with someone.. Tracy, you seem very keen? Or perhaps you are talking of another contest?

At any rate, the reason I had stopped the contest was indeed the lack of participation and the constant prodding I had to do just to get people to post anything at all... It is indeed quite an effort though it is obviously not thankless by any means!

perhaps simply posting in a forum thread on here is enough? Votes would not have to be transparent as before either... Anyhow, drop me a line and we can see what to do?
