Where did all the blisters go GW

No if you make a mail order you can get it delivered to you local store FOC. (Well at least in the UK).
When I use mail order I always do it through my local store, just out of courtesy so the money shows as going through the managers books, rather than HQ.
But then again our local manager is a personal friend.

yup in the uk it\'s free to get stuff delivered to the store but when it costs you over £5 bus fare to go collect your order it works out costing more to have something delivered to the store for those that aren\'t really local to their nearest GW than having it delivered to your home address

i should have really thought about this when i practically lived above GW in hemel hempstead lol

Maybe they simply don\'t care to much about you guys as customers. It doesn\'t mean that they don\'t care about their customers, just that they are targeting different people.

in general for the stores these days i\'d say you are right they are essentially making them into recruitment/indoctrination centres for those unfamiliar/new to the hobby and milking them completely for inferior plastic kits and trying to force their existing customers to stay at home and order direct from them which has the advantage of not having to handle the under 14\'s

but it also has disadvantages in that its disrespecting the existing customer by saying \"you do things our way or fuck off\" which is poor customer service as we all know the golden rule that the customer is always right and if there are customers wanting the product /service then the company should atleast be trying to accomodate them

a simple solution to this would be rather than just checking stock counts for sales so you can replenish items but to have a tally sheet of items customers have asked for when the lobotomised poloshirt wearing \"marines\" *cough* have plagued them with all manner of questions when they\'ve gone into the store this would mean that they could see which stores need a few blisters of say aspect warriors/ SoB imagifiers/ demonhosts etc. sent to them as said lobotomised \"marine\" *COUGH* telling the customer to try mail order (in store, by phone or online does not mean they will as most will be disparraged and spend their money on something else more than likely not even GW related

where as if the store emailed a request for say no more than 10 blisters in a week of unavailable stuff in store that had been requested by customers and told them \"pop back in a week or 2 we should have a delivery of them by then\" instead of \"try mail order\" this will show not only respect and care for their custom but also allow for possibility of up selling and introduction of players to different models and maybe even start them out on playing a different race the average space marine player may decide they want grey knights in their force eldar players may want to experiment with aspect warriors etc.

i feel like i\'m explaining brain surgery here or something as someone who has worked in many retail outfits and run a few stores involving specialist items (including one that had a mail order system too) i can appreciate the limitations of shelf space and the need to push new products but i can also appreciate the needs of the loyal customers those that have come back time and time again and been my bread and butter for years

it makes more sense keeping them happy than it does to have new unfamiliar things on shelf in hope of somebody wanting them and it\'s not like we are talking about having a dealership full of jaguars in italy surrounded by showrooms for ferraris

this is something simple and low budget that will entice more to open up their wallets that have closed them due more to the companies inaccesability to their wants and needs

if they even wanted to go overboard if this showed success they could do in store features of classic of the month or something similar by announcing it in WD that across the country for a limited time they will be having the classic necromunda escher gangers next month these will be the prices and they will only be available outside of mailorder for a month so if you want them pick them up then

this admittedly is not as cost effective but is more marketing effective as across the board it will get the attention of customers that don\'t go in store as much any more but still check WD and the net in hope that GW will release something they want and see some of their favourite minis and decide to pop in and pick them up to bolster their forces or if its not what they want but see that its an on going thing they may feel more encouraged to pop in and ask their lobotomised \"marines\" *cough* if they will be getting in such and such a unit/charachter etc. and when that will be so they can pop in and get it

yes to a company that focuses a lot of its specialist products in mail order this could seem unneccesary and cost inefficient

but it wouldn\'t just be existing customers coming back to top up their forces with this sort of initiative but it would also attract new players especially those under 18 (who don\'t own their own credit cards so are limited to their use of mail order and with youth money managing they are more likely to spend their money on available products instore to carry on with painting and leave mailorder to birthdays an christmas when relatives have given them cash not knowing what to get (or knowing and feeling to daunted to get it by going instore and possibly coming out with the wrong item as lobotomised \"marine\" *COUGH* has suggested to said relative that they don\'t really want that they would probably be like this more as it is the hot property item of the moment seeing as they are encouraged to push their products and in some instances like with most stores will be encouraged to push certain lines more than orthers as there are slumps in sales or an excess of stock in store that needs to be gotten rid off )

if these relatively new players (which those under 18 would be) saw items for bloodbowl/necromunda/battlefleet gothic/gorkamorka etc. in store and the store was running a tournament league or just a few introductory games in store that month too they are more encouraged to make an impulse buy to join in where as if the products were mail order exclusive and there was a tourney held in store then the players would be limited to those who already have items to do with the game and a few others that have decided to use mail order or ebay to get stuff together quickly for the tourney and in general it would show less reaction and encourage less impulse buys as the same items as usual are available instore and they already have what they want from those product lines

really it\'s not rocket science and for the first suggestion there is no real increase in costs as the store has indicated interest of someone to buy those items so they can be shipped with the next lot of items due to be shipped and if the customer has not returned to purchase them in the next month or two they can be sent back to head office with the rest of the product send backs for red distribution like other companies do with their stock

the later idea admittedly would require market testing on say a few random stores in differing locations to see if it would reap necessary increase in profitability to sanction the costs of shipping those items running tournaments and publishing the necessary marketing but again this isn\'t hard to do for a company like gw that even keeps its marketing pretty much in house for the most part

and as a side note the later idea would also help those out who do commisions and those looking to part ways with models from games they no longer play as they know there will be an increase in demand for the items too around the the period that they will be instore

The basic truth is that no matter how much GW \"fanfares\" Golden Deamon as a the prime example of the painting aspect of the hobby, GW still regard the painter/collector as an extremely minor aspect of their customer base.
Their main customer base is less discriminating in what they want and more easily swayed by the latest \"Army\" marketing campaign.

Hmm -

Have only been to one GW store in my life - DR\'s local, and they seemed to have everything on the ball there. Having said that my local stores at home are independant retailers who stock GW not GW Stores, and one of them had a 30 foot section of wall with nothing but blisters on it for 40k and another 30 foot section of blisters for WFB - with the box sets displayed above and below the blisters last time I was there.

Having said that currently I use GW mail order - and have had no issues with them. I got my order promptly (barring the sandstorm that slowed delivery) and with all parts I ordered.

Wow - I just defended GW. I really need a beer. lol

that\'s a very polite way of saying gw like suckers and could care less about anyone else :D so very true though and rather unfortunate as it can be seen from this thread alone even if say one in twenty people feel similarly that is still 5% of potential customers or existing customer that they are not catering for or just meeting the needs of and a a 5% increase in sales is always a good thing something that would help the company a great deal more than regularly increasing prices that for the most part may see them an increase in returns but sees more and more people leaving their products behind and using what they have, or proxying miniatures from other ranges and/or exclusively using ebay or other similar services to get what they need on the cheap

and thats not even counting those that will just buy one of each of the variant figures they need and cast up the rest themselves from home made molds

needless to say it would be interesting to see how many people who shop at gw purchase rulebooks (especially the imperial armour ones) in comparison to those that download the content from torrents saving them huge amounts of cash

it does have me wondering considering GW will scalp every player for extra cash by forcing them into getting expansion packs and army specific rule books when almost every other table top system will have pretty much a core rule book encompasing them all for sale or even in the case of some games systems just a free to download .pdf covering the rules but then they are quite within their rights to go profiteering i guess its just a shame their lust for our money is in misplaced areas why demand it from us in one place when we are quite willing to give it to them in another ???

out of curiosity what force do you collect? as i will say there have been times when mail order have gotten things right for me but when it comes to some more specialist stuff i.e. not space marines or orks they have more difficulty as most problems i\'ve had with them have been when ordering sisters of battle items, epic, mordheim and similar sorts of stuff but when i\'ve ordered simple things like a plethora of bits for an ork speedfreaks army or just getting newly released items i\'ve had no problems

as for the walls of blisters i have to ask how big is that shop ??? lol the two main shops covering miniatures local to me probably have nowhere near that much and one is a gamesworkshop admittedly all their walls have blisters over them but there are far less quantities than there used to be and its still the selection which sucks worse than the quantity there is certainly no need for my local GW to stock huge amounts of each item from specialist forces as for most collectors they\'d already have a large proportion of what they want in their force but having a 2 or 3 of each one would be an advantage as it saves the customer a lot of hassle and some stuff like if you have boxes of battle sister squads on the shelves it would make more sense to have the blisters of miniatures that accompany them (priests, imagifiers and heavy weapons) than having blisters of extra battle sisters with bolters i mean they wrote the codicies as the architectures for the customers armies and say that all staff should have product knowledge to help sell the products to the customer

to me knowing how the fluff behind the mechanics of a dreadnaught may be nice in general conversation with customers when selling them one for their army although they were probably going to buy it anyway

but knowing what blisters compromise the makings of a unit and what blisters can be used to upgrade boxed units on the shelf to make them more effective in game would help with the general stocking of a store so it can help its customers regardless of the staff talking to them

yes its a small thing but its the small details that make the big picture sadly to say something i\'d expect hobbyists that paint miniatures and generals that are planning their arsenal to understand and already employ

admittedly thats less to do with just wanting to pick up a mini you like the look of to paint and more me wanting imagifiers to fill out the ranks of my existing battle sister squads

My glass of red rant.

Everytime I\'ve built up the courage to enter a GW store I\'ve thankfully (well 90% of the time) been able to get my grubby hands on the mini that I went there to buy. My trip to GW in Brisbane went smoothly when I purchased Saint Celestine, and I also picked up some nice old style Space Wolf termies. One which was the prize I chose for winning the in-store painting comp. I\'ve since given that to a CMoN member as an annual present. When in Toronto, I wanted to get some LOTR\'s minis. Sam & Frodo, and while they didn\'t stock the particular ones I wanted, the GW dood opened a closet and whipped out a blister with three minis in it, two of which were some nicely sculpted Sam & Frodo minis. The other mini in the blister was Gollum, and the flash on this mini is so bad that there\'s no face on him. Terrible mis-cast!

Do you think I could contact GW and get \'em to replace him with a better cast mini?

Also, my beautiful Mum send me a mini each year for my birthday. Bless her sweet soul! And two of the times she\'s gone to GW in Melbourne City to buy my mini. She gets to speaking to the staff members there. Hehe. And the first year they got her to buy me the \'Giant\'! Good work guys! Lovely mini!

The following year I was very disappointed, although I did tell my mum I loved it, she sent me some terribly cast and sculpted \'Goblins\'. Sorry GW doods, that\'s unforgivable! Hehe... I look at that blister and cringe. Ouch! How could my sweet Mum do that to me! How selfish of her! *insert tongue in cheek*

Anyways, I put her onto Mind Games in Swanston St. in the city of Mel and knew
I couldn\'t go wrong with this. The guy there (the older dood) is very cool! And nice to talk to! That year I got a SWEET Rackham mini! Awesome!

I suppose I could ask for a specific mini, but I like the element of surprise when getting birthday presents. This year no mini for my birthday, instead I got a rockin\' Aussie guitar mag! I think next year I\'ll ask for something from Hell Dorado, as I love their minis! We\'ll see.

Also, this present thing is reciprocal. Don\'t want you guys reading this to think I\'m a selvish git. I hook my Mum up with cool gifts too. Cards, CD\'s, pastels drwaing pads etc. My Mum\'s a really talented artist! Wonder what I\'ll get her this year? Maybe a nice elegent set of pastels! Like we are (well I certainly am) with buying mini paints, my Mum is exactly the same with buying dry pastels. She loves it! Nothing like going to an art store together with me Mum. Ah, I\'m starting to feel homesick!

Happy Sunday to all!

Unreal! A painting day there must have been so cool! The staff there are so nice, and the store is the kinda mini store you dream of. Wall to wall stocked with thousands of cool blistered minis from all the major mini producers. Great shop!

Were you visiting Oz on holidays?

Happy days!

It was great! I spent far too much money in there, lol! Met some very lovely people, both from the store and hobbyists from the area.

I was doing the working holiday thing. My bf was sent there with his job and I joined him a bit later and got a job of my own. I loved Melbourne, it was a fun city to live in. I\'d move back there tomorrow if I had the opportunity!
