Hi I recently have come to terms that I love converting figures. And I don\'t have extra bits lying around like some folks do...and I was wondering where do you girls and guys get your extra bits? do you get them from old blisters that you bought or do you order them or what?

After 20 years of collecting minis you tend to accumulate a heap of spare parts.

I do order specific bits for conversions though.

You could have them made by someone like me, but for instant pieces order them from GW online. I do furniture and stuff, not what most people would need for a conversion. I did do some 150 feathers for a Space Marine chapter, a guy is converting Space Wolves.

depends on the bitz...

if you mean for GW just trade some of your spares for somethign your friends have...

or their are like 15 auctions on eBay for bunches of bitz now.

also check el cheapo toys for guns and stuff. maje sure the size looks good.

no telling what you can find in a dollar store in the toys area that might make a good conversion bit.

Sadly, nothing replaces time for having a good bitz selection. I have the accumulated knick-knacks of about five years of military model building in high school, as well as various extras from minis I bought and dismembered. Want to see my use of unorthodox bits? This guy below - his backpack is from a Micro Armor SAM launcher, and his smart gun is made from pieces of MiG landing gear, a machine gun pintle mount from a tank kit, a pen, and the valve off a spray can:

I don\'t understand how people can afford some of the things they make, ie when they casually mention they used some plastic IG legs, a zombie torso etc, that means a whole bunch of unfinished squad boxes sittting around, right? That ain\'t cheap. Even buying bitz from GW is pretty expensive. I could kick myself for not buying a box of old Warhammer skele\'s back when GW still sold the damn things.

skulls...

I need lots of skulls...I will trade bits, even some full miniatures if I have any that you want for many of them.

I sent some to a guy in the states, who said he would make some molds and cast out 100s for me. (and I would then pay him)

He emailed me saying he got the skulls I sent...and that\'s it. He won\'t reply to my emails :( :( :( :( *cries*

If anyone lives in the same town, beat him up for me :)

Skulls ... need skulls...buying sprews would be too costly since only get 8 or so skulls per sprue.... for the conversions I need them for, I really need 100s...

They come in a blister on sprues without the base. (thats how I saw them in my local store anyway.) Hope this helps.

StarFyre, check with Reaper. They sell paint jars full of \"agitators\" - skulls and heads - I think it is a 100 to a jar.

If you are looking for Skull bases, go to Sarge\'s Footlocker . Tell Sarge that Kevin said \"hey\".

There are some Reaper Skulls.. You can also buy their paints, as each paint comes with a skull as an agitator. I took all my skulls out, and replaced them with a couple of pewter fishing sink shots.

Freebooter minis do a great line in skulls, sorry no link....

Crap reply or what!!

All my bits are left over from years of chopping stuff up:cool:

Try your local hobby stores.

I went into my local Hobby Lobby and simply asked if they had a bitz box and out came a huge box with all sorts of stuff in it (weapons, arms, skulls, scenery, parts of vehicles and even a few complete figures). I simply dug through it all and took everything I want with the promise to bring in anything that I don\'t want from my own bitz box.

I\'ll be dropping some Ogre Kingdom heads, arms and weapons here in a few weeks after I\'m done with what I\'m working on (keeping a few for myself of course). Only fair - and I found some real gems in there.

So ask - worth a shot.
