I don\'t know what happened to him. I assumed it was because I am out of the loop over here. His Maximus Ultra Marine is my favorite.

yeah StarFyre that seems to be a pretty prevelant opinion now, but he just has a catchy (too cartoony/Eavy Metal) style, that really caught my eye. Just wondered, if I remember correctly he won the Slayer Sword one year and then just p o o f . . .

From what I understand Bobby just took his hobbys another direction. Hes into building Armor tank models. Historical stuff.. things like that.

I haven\'t spoken to him in a while, but last I heard he was busy with work, school, and some side projects, and perfectly happy to paint scale tanks and such. He teases us by saying he\'s going to do something small scale every now and then, but I wouldn\'t hold my breath.

i think it might just have been the fact that he wanted to explore more areas of the hobby, he knew he was one of the best at this kinda stuff, can\'t blame him for trying out some different stuff, if he can carry his skills over to that too.

Ive bounced back and fourth between historical subjects and fantasy sci-fi for the last 25 years of my life. Keep in mind almost all fantasy and sci-fi subjects draw for some fourn of historical record or period. So for Bobby or any other painter to come and go only seems natural to me.
One of my side projects soon is to sculpt 1/56 scale (28mm) WW2 and Sci Fi military vehicles and some cross overs.

If you look at his old site, he has some pretty different type of stuff on there... I even think \"The Little Mermaid\" was on it...
I think the reason that some of the great painters who have posted here in the past and no longer do so, is because of the negative and jealous feedback that they receive when they do post. Some people just want to snipe some of the greats. Others leave comments like, \" you used to be good, your new stuff sucks.\" Still others are told that their hard work doesn\'t fit in with the morals or ethics of a company whose idea of God is the emperor of mankind. Even with the thick skins they have, it would only take a few of those comments before you would say why bother.
So, when new people say where is this person or that, they might be avoiding you.
If you really want to know where they are, you might start by saying what you like in their work. Bobby\'s Captain Leonatos, was painting and conversion at the top of the game when it won the sword.

Yeah, really miss the guy. Even after all these years his work continues to inspire me. If it wasn't for Bobby, I'd never have taken-up this art again - after a 12 year break!
He was, IMO, one of the best 'Space Marine' miniature painters of his generation.
Many people prefer the new Rackham style of painting, or go for a more realistic painting approach. Bobby had a more cartoonish/old skool style - which is beautiful! Wish more guys painted with this style, TBH.
Bobby's one of those mini-painters you can you instantly recognize his work. I hope he returns to this hobby and posts his latest works here @ CMoN. But, I'm not going to hold my breath, as it's apparent many of the guys who were well into figurine painting back in the late nineties/early-to-mid noughties, have moved on to different hobbles. Such is life. It's refreshing to see Jennifer Haley has stuck to her guns and continues to rock our world.
Who knows? Maybe Bobby will surprise us all and post one of his miniatures here at CMoN in 2016? Stranger things have happened

Technically, BW\'s painting was immaculate. It was at least the equal of any of the other painters on this site, but personally I don\'t think I have ever seen such perfectly blended miniatures. Whether you like the style or not, you can\'t deny the quality.
And Rackham stuff is realistic? Not a chance.

At the end of the day, he won the sword for being the best on that day. No doubt his work is of amazing stantard, but everyone has his/her own preference.
You see it both ways. Historical to sf/fantasy and the other way around. For me it was the other way around. I had done tank modelling some 16 years when I switched to fantasy and sf.
Yup, that\'s personal. For me the appeal of fantasy and sf is freedom of thought. I can come up with things myself. The appeal of historical is the recreation of something that has really existed to as much a perfection as possible and learning it\'s history. The gathering of information is also fun (feeds the old collecting and hunting instincts I thinkI personally don\'t see the appeal..but that\'s me
).For me, making tanks was too close to what I did in real life (mechanical engineering) so I needed something less restrictive as a hobby.

I don\'t get it. Was this percieved as a bash bobby post, if so, that was not the intent at all. I think a lot of people love his work, as old as it now is, and I am one of those. My saying his work was cartoony or too \'eavy metal, was more a statement on what I have heard others say, and is much more in order with what other posters have replied.
Hope it is clear, I love the work of Mr. Wong, and if ever there is a return I will be in line to complement him and fanboy all over his work.
