which army

I\'ve been painting Space Marines for what seems like a REALLY long time now, (even though its only been about 6 months) for my warhammer club. I think now is definitely the time for a whfantasy army. Right now, I can\'t decide between Beasts of Chaos, Ogre Kingdoms and Wood Elves. I don\'t want to have just a normal old army, I want to have a cool theme with some big conversions especially on the leaders. So, which one should I pick? And does anyone have ideas for some cool themes? remember, this wouldn\'t be a big gaming army. There\'s actually probably only one person I\'d ever play against.

I vote wood elves. With perhaps an elemental theme. You could do some pretty sweet conversions with earth, fire, wind and water.

My two cents.

Personally I\'d chose Beasts of Chaos for the mutation possibilities...

And because beastmen RAWK :bouncy:

Better than those pointy-eared wussbags anyway

Of those three I\'d go with Beasts of Chaos as well.
Some really nice figures, especially champions etc.
Ogres would be good if you don\'t want to paint a boatload of figures.
Though not on the list I personally like Skaven for character but you need to paint a hell of a lot of rank and file.

Any other suggestions?

I think you could do a pretty cool look either way, but I\'d probably lean towards incorporating all four.

And as to what Dan said, Beastmen are a highly prized delicacy in wood elf circles. They\'re the lobster of the forest. If you think their ears are pointy, you should see their filet knives. lol

I think I\'d have gone with the big guys. Back when you could take ogres from the Empire list (pre-dogs of war, I guess) I did some of the most enjoyable and hilarious conversion work with Ogres. There\'s just so much to work with.

The other upside is that you can really dote some serious time on every model. Even your rank and file. There just ain\'t that many of them.

Plus... dude, Scraplauncher. I\'m just sayin\'. Scraplauncher.

So I\'ve got 90 bucks (I stil can\'t believe I made 90 bucks in just a little more than an hour) to spend on beastmen when I go to GW later. Besides the army book, what else should I get?

battalion?

or you could theme your army, so loads of beast heards, or mayby, you could save the hard work for later and get some bestigors!

To tell you the truth, I wasn\'t able to find the battalion online. Do they have one? If they do, what\'s in it?

No there\'s no battalion for beasts yet as there aren\'t enough plastic kits to make one up.

For starters beastherds are brilliant. I tend to take four straight as they come out of the box, two armed with shields and two armed with extra hand weapons. Ambush with the two extra hand weapons and hoof it across the table as fast as you can with the rest, If you time it right you can get front and rear charges on the same unit at once. Add a beastlord and a shaman with the Staff of Darkoth in there too and top it off with hounds. It makes for a nice compact 1000 point arm that will be a big headache for most opponents.

Later, if you want to expand it I\'d recommend adding a unit of centigor. Their ability to charge straight through woods makes them perfect for catching enemies unawares with flank charges. Taking minotaur and bestigor usually ends in disappointment for me as I find they just don\'t live up to expectations. Also the models are poo and badly need updating. If you want something big go for trolls. Chaos Giants are also a fun addition and they make for good painting as well.

So what do you think would be a good color scheme? I did a test- graveyard earth washed with devlan mud and it looked pretty good, but I was also thinking of maybe having a grey color scheme. What do you think?
