Which is better?

Ok, I have posted two Owlbears #’s 3044, 3045 . What I was kind of hoping for is a discussion on the images and the sculpting. To facilitate this I painted them in the same color scheme. So I post it here.

I painted both of them at the same time. and I found that as I was painting them I developed a liking for the Chainmail Owlbear.

My brother has compared the Reaper Model to Elvis in an Owl Suit. And after having painted it, I have to agree.

So what do the rest of you think, cause we all know that the rating system is a bit odd to say the least.

I prefer the Reaper Owlbear myself, since it\'s got a more dynamic pose (but it just edges in there).

I\'ve got the two Owlbear models all primed up and I was gonna do the exact same thing as you... ;) I guess I\'ll just do my Chaimail/WotC/Reaper Ogre collection instead. lol

I personally prefer the Chainmail Owlbear myself -- it\'s a lot more dynamic than the Reaper one. The Reaper one does have the advantage of being in one piece so it\'s easier to prepare... but that explains the more static pose imo.

A friend of mine dislikes both the models because it\'s too ape-like -- what he means is that the legs are much shorter than the arms, and if it was walking on all fours it wouldn\'t look that bear-like. I don\'t mind that as much.

I, too, prefer the Chainmail Model. To me, the Reaper sculpt just looks a little bit, well, dorky. Kinda like it\'s jumping out of a cake or a jack-in-the-box. It\'s just too, umm... frilly, not quite sure.
the Chainmail model seems more eerie and sinister. But then, I\'ve never been much of a fan of OwlBears, myself.

Have to say I like the Reaper one better ... because it\'s a little more \"opened up\" you can see more of the figure. The chainmail one is all hunched over and therefore to me not as interesting.

Owlbears

Reaper\'s owlbear is better pose-wise: if painted with a different color scheme, you can easily flaunt your skill with those chest feathers AND backside. Chainmail owlbear is too slouched; it doesn\'t present enough surface for tinkering with colors.

Reaper\'s owlbear has a weakness, though, and those are arm feathers, in my opinion -- Chainmail owlbear has that detail right.

Headwise, Reaper\'s owlbear seems to be modelled after horned owl, whereas Chainmail owlbear is barn owl (I think).

Of course -- Chainmail has one big advantage: Chainmail, since it is a WotC product, can model their own stuff after the images in D&D3E Monster Manual. I believe that WotC/Hasbro might get hissy if Reaper sculpted something that was too close to that picture...

Which reminds me of my own crafter\'s dilemma: Grab D&D3E MM, check the pictures of green dragon, white dragon, bronze dragon and silver dragon. I want to craft one of them, from the scratch, but I just can\'t *decide* which one. Should I try to arrange a vote or what?

The reaper one does look like it jumped out of a jack in the box which made me laugh my buttocks off...

The Chainmail has a big goofy head. But I think it looks better than the reaper one.

The reaper one looks like you surprised it and it got the initiative. Much more like it is about to rip you apart. More dynamic pose.

The chainmail one looks like it is foraging in the wilderness for berries. Not very exciting pose.

I own the Chainmail owlbear for the game. I probably won\'t buy the Reaper one. It is a trivial thing for me I think both are good enough for a game if you need an owlbear.

I like the proportions of the Chainmail Barn Owl head- the larger beak and facial feathers. I prefer the design over the reaper, as it feels more of a hybrid to me. read: a blend of the two creatures. the reaper one feels more like an owl\'s head stuck on a bear sized body... a little more frankenstein ish. though I do like the additional feathers on the Reaper. If i needed one, I\'d probably buy the chainmail I suppose. Nice job on both, but my big question is: how did you do the flowers?! :) they are excellent.
