Which minis to play chess?

Hi there!

I was thinking about making a chess set with painted minis, but i can\'t decide which minis use for it: can you help me?

I was thinking about Reaper \'cause they\'re cheaper, but I\'d like also GW \'cause they come in very different shapes (ex: troops for pawns, mounted minis for knights and so on)

Obviously, i need 2 factions possibly quite different from each other (good-bad/human-non-human/etc...)

I once thought about this for someone as a commission but it worked out too expensive.
You could go obvious and have Highelves v Orcs, Dwarves & Orcs, all the usual suspects.
Best of course now you can got for the LOTR mini\'s.

Reaper and GW also offer \"grunt packs\" of 5 or so identical figs - usually much cheaper than the same fig sold individualy times 5. These are good for pawns - unless you want all of your pawns to be \"individual\"?

Dragons (lizards/worms) vs. Adventurers (this may not work unles you have a BIG board)lol

Got to agree with the general concept here - go with a shovel pack - or better yet mix and match - for example use Reaper for the pawns and GW for the character pieces (King, Queen, Etc)

There\'s always the Rackham Mid-Nor warband, that\'s based around the idea of a chess set, so all the models are easy to identify

@greymane: this board is wonderful! but i don\'t think i\'d be able to put it together

i think i\'ll make a custom board, maybe with 2 different theme-related sides (desert for mummies, graveyard for vampires)

That is a nice board set up. The GF would have a fit though - Its freaking huge, and my last woodworking project aint finished yet.

I saw a real nice diorama of an ork and a space marine playing chess just recently, but I can\'t for the life of me find it...

All I can say is wow.

When my husband first picked up a set of 5 marines, I had wanted to do a chess set, was going to do drk elves vs. high elves... that was years ago, ideas had evolved quite a bit since then, but who am I kidding? I\'ll never finish it, especially since my hubbie keeps bugging me to paint his stuff!lol More power to ya Louis Cypher, can\'t wait to see it!
