White ink

I\'ve bought myself some white ink today for my calligraphy (yet another hobby of mine). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has found any use for it when painting figures. It is quite an opaque ink, so would need a lot of thinning.

Anyway, if anyone has any great ideas for using it, shout em out!

Actually, I\'ve used white inks on minis. My favorite, quick trick is to use it on horns/bone to give a faux-blend look.

Basically, I paint my horns tan or so, and do some brown/black at the tips (yes, horns get darker as they age, and the oldes part of the horn is at the tip, not at the base). Giving a white ink glaze over the whole thing can soften the lines between the colors.

Generally, opaque-ish inks can be used as glazes, which tend to help soften the chalkiness of dry-brushing and color-division lines.

White ink is also excellent for line highlights, and I just cannot do NMM without it.

And if you are doing flame work the right way (Ergo, hottest part (the base) white and the further out areas darker) it is great to get into the details, kinda like an anti-shade wash.....:flip::bouncy:

Because she has one of every single mini ever molded (even the rare lines produced only in southern Vietnam in the 1940s) to get done.

lollollol Not quite, I used to have more painted minis than I did unpainted, but I do seem to be accumulating more minis than I have time to paint, thanks to Rackham, Reaper, GW and Forgeworld (to name but a few!!) and a full time non art related job. Unfortunately, now that some bright spark decided to recast the balrog in clear resin and hollow it out to enclose a light source, theres not much more new stuff you can do with that model.

Hence why it has not yet seen the light of my painting table :]

Ah well, Hakuna Matata as they say, I have plenty of other minis to get done right now.

Unfortunately, now that some bright spark decided to recast the balrog in clear resin and hollow it out to enclose a light source, theres not much more new stuff you can do with that model.

Sure there is: cast it up in some kind of flammable putty, paint it up, then take a lighter and ...well, you get the idea

You\'ll have an awesome looking mini for all of about 10 seconds. Make sure you\'ve got you\'re camera ready
