White or black primer, that is the question

try to use a white primer, then, before painting, use black ink where you need shadows.
I tried this and it worked good enough !

That dark elf step by step article was mine :D

I use mostly black primer, even though I may go up to pure white highlights. Why?

You don\'t have to go back and cover up anything. And it\'s easier to brighten than darken models.

If you look at my Ulthran miniature, which is really bright, you get my point. I used black primer on that one too.

The only miniatures which I have painted with a white undercoat the last 6 months were some wood elves - and I regret it. It took a lot of time, and now, I want them to look dark, like they should to get camouflaged in the forest.

So my suggestion is. Go for black, it\'s ez...

It is entirely down to the colour scheme you will be imlementing on the model.

I find you get a truer colour over black though.

This is truly a case of \"yer pays yer money and takes yer choice\".
I primarily use white primer for display figures, basecoat colour for RAF and Black for Orcs/Chaos
Having said that one of my GD entries this year is black primed (It\'s an orc!).

I prefer to use white as I find that I am able to control the colour blending a little better. Plus I find that Black has a tendency to loose detail in the shadows, but that could just be due to increasing old age affecting my eyesight.

Personally I seem to be painting more towards the Display/GD, end product at the moment and therefore am priming in white. I find that the white GW primer seems to be of a finer spray and therefore does not affect the sculpting texture of the model. (one of the primary reasons why I choose a model).

Like a number of others figure painters if I have a lot of metal to paint I will prime black or recoat with Chaos Black /Shadow balck ink mix, then paint in the metallics ar required.

I\'ve tried a brush on primer and ended up scrubbing the thing in paintstripper.

Like I said it\'s a personal choice and if you are happy with the end result from black then stick with it. Nadin should be happy with the results she is displaying as the quality is great.

I don\'t think this will help but it\'s my opinion.
