Who are GW trying to Kid???

At the store in Derby, there is one part timer who is predominantly (sp?) a painter, which is rather nice for likeminded people. The manager is also fairly relaxed on the rules and most players are left to get on with it one their own.

There is one guy though...i swear he hates me.. every 30 seconds looking over my shoulder... i belive his words to me were: \" dont take the tab off that space marine, thats what you attach it to the base with\", my reply \"i\'m going to pin it to a display base\" his reply \"well, your going to find that difficult and anyway you cant play with it on that sized base..\"..
I dont think he works there anymore...

With regard to \"The Company Line\" it really does vary from manager to manager. Our previous manager (ooh I hate him so) wouldn\'t even let people play specialist games in-store. You couldn\'t use models with LotR components for Warhammer and vice versa, No non-GW paints or brushes allowed at the painting table (you even had to supply your own bog roll for cleaning brushes). He single handedly wrecked the atmoshere in the shop and alienated almost all of the regulars. We all had a big party when he got moved on.

The new manager is a welcome breath of fresh air. He\' way more relaxed on what you can use in-strore. He even lets us paint and play Warhammer Ancients as long as it\'s quiet. This is with entire armies that are from companies that have nothing to do with GW. His line is \"you bought our rules set so it\'s fair to let you use it\".

The atmoshere in the store is electric again, everyones so much happier and the takings have also increased dramatically as a result. The store is back to being heaving again at the weekend.

The main point of GWs products is that you\'re supposed to have fun. If stores take the fun out of it by imposing strict rules then people aren\'t going to buy as much.

I\'ve got 4 local stores to me where I live, each one no more than 40 mins drive from my house, I\'ve met a fair few of their people and found that they are rather nice people, if not a little annoying some in the fact I sometimes feel a little hounded when I walk in to their store. But with that a side I can\'t moan about them they are friendly and helpful and enthusiastic about their job and the hobby they promote, but that was the first time one them told me I couldn\'t use my converts to play in an actual game, so I\'m not to worried. I\'d still go in there if I ever want to grab something out of their stores.

hehe, another GW bashing thread.

i have a soft spot GW for a simple reason: they are the only fantasy mini providers around here! I hate historical, simply becuse there is a DEFINITE right and wrong, and fantasy has a bit more leeway.

the hand flamer of painting death will be a purchase from me, simply because i cant find another spraygun suitable for mini painting anywhere.

my 2 pennies(they are very shiny)

What historical stuff have you been looking at? For most of the ancients stuff we play they only have a hazy idea at best as to how they lived and fought let alone how they looked.

Way off topic - buddy of mine has a pretty good sized 25mm Roman Legionary army, and he used to fight against someone who had Carthegenians - including the unit the Carthegenians used to stake to the ground (convicts) - well, he had just finished his elephants and played them for the first time - the elephants (Carthegenian) routed through the convicts (Carthegenian) 3 times before heading for the edge of the board.

Just a silly gaming story to lighten the mood.

In historical modelling there is still a surprising amount of flexibility. And often there is no absolute right or wrong on things, not just on something like colour where there\'s natural variation.

Quite apart from that most historical modellers don\'t give a toss about accuracy!

You get the occasional stitch-counter (or whatever the equivalent of the rivet-counter in armour or aircraft modelling would be called) but if it looks about right that\'s good enough for most.

Also ,2 years on CMON has shown me there are a few anoraks & trainspotters/rivet counters in this universe as well.We havnt got exclusive rights to them in the military modelling community !
Most people who get anal about historical minis have usually never served in the military .And believe me the human need for individuallity still comes out .Regulation dress soon goes out the window ! Kit has to be modified/butchered to suit operational needs .........and there are NO POLAROIDS of Ancients .....Medievals....Renaissance ...Restoration....or Napoleonic warriors

Is this THE definitive book on painting Citadel miniatures, the one to end all dispute? Will they show every stage rather than skip out the money shots of how it all comes together? mine shows the cycle of a gw customer mate.
they find them and like them
they then become obsessed and fan boy ish
then their is the falling out over armylist changes and/or prices and hatred begins (and the darkside leads to hasslefree lol )
then their is the realisation that it\'s just models at the end of the day so you may as well just enjoy them all (sound like the porno version of pokemon!)
