Who authorises pictures on CMON?

The reason i want to know, because, is there anyway to stop people posting pictures of th esame mini loads of times just from different angles?

I don\'t know about other members, but this is really beginning to P*****f me off. I click browse gallery, and there are shots of th esmae bloody mini, fom every conceivable angle.

For god sake put them all into one picture, or is this people attempts to get there ranking up, as each picture will get around the same vote?

Com\'on its not that difficult, and it makes browsing so much nicer, and its better to see all the angles in one pic, not having to go hunting for the rest if one of these are thrown up randomly.

Or another choice is make this a rule of posting.

i whole heartedly agree. it also annoys me when they stick wip pics there instead of in the forum.
suppose the difficulty is the mods have enough to do anyway without checking all the pics of one mini especially if they come on at different times and how do they decide which one of the pics to approve?

I agree with darklord that people shouldn\'t post WIP\'s in their gallery. they should post it on the forum.

people might not have a immage editing program.. that might be why they post serveral pics of the same fig.

surely everyone has paint and knows how to use it. thats all i use to stich them together. may be they dont realise its such a problem. i seem to find the majority are newer members (although i could be wrong)

I think the problem is one of not knowing how to sort their photos out into a montage, although spacemunkie has done some superb tutorials on here, on how to. It pisses me off too, but I guess we all had to learn once upon a time. :D

Personally I think there is no excuse at all for not loading multiple views even if you can\'t afford one off the shelf there is always GIMP I had a female friend download this the other night and after a quick read of the tutorials she picked it up very quickly.

Yes there are a lot of good articles on the site but a lot of people do not know they are there or believe it or not how to acces them if they do see the article link or is that a case of can\'t be bothered???

I agree there are far too many wip poto\'s and single shots of the same figure by the same user. However, the people that MOD the site have their work cut out as is because they also MOD the Forums as well as all the comments that are made on figures/submissions so going through every picture as well would take forever, especially at the speed CMoN is working at the moment.

Maybe the best way around this would be a message sent out to each new person that registers for the site laying out a few simple guidelines/rules along the lines of posting/submission of pictures and maybe a link to the articles section concerned??? Maybe even send it out to those already registered every now and then as well as a reminder :D

There is also a tutorial in the articles section on creating multiple views in a single file.

For a free image program I recommend Irfanview. It\'s free and has everything you need.

Normally I try to be very careful about moderating images and when I discover mulitple uploads of the same Image I send the poster a PM and delete the duplicates.
However there have quite often been instances when the duplications are not consecutive posted images and that really screws up your memory. Given that yesterday I approved over 100 images and probably the same amount of comments (and Supervike about the same) I(we) can\'t remember everything.

But If the duplication of the images is bothering people that much there are a number of options:-
PM the poster yourselves,
Post a Comment about the duplications on the images,
PM a Mod.

After all:- A: Some people are new here and don\'t have the gist of the place.
B: The Mods are only human (Or Barely in my case.).

Yep multiple angles ar just a pain, but I recon it\'s no advantage as I think rating goes down the more times you are forced to rate the same mini.
Putting WIP in the gallery is peoples own problem, put try and PM them to tell about the problem and the WIP forum not all of them know it exist - I\'ve done that a few times, just to see the work pop up in the forum shortly after.

I paint my thumb.
I\'m happy this came up, it really annoys me too, and I was wondering if I could bring this up without pissing off anyone.
I think the guideline provided sadly don\'t mention anything about either multiple submission and WIP, so if the mods base themself on it they would only remove what is not a painted mini. Leaves a lot of space for interpretation.
But this can really ruin a voting session especially if the connection is bad on one end or the other. Somedays I find myself desperately waiting for a serious submission ( Leaving beside \'bad\' minis, which are of course totally okay.)
Since the subject is up and nobody is pissed,
I\'ll list here what I consider annoying submissions:
- Multiple submissions ( Exept thing like: \'Overviews\' and \'closeup\' montages, especially if the mini is awesome.)
-Any pic of \'backview\' \'left shoulder view\', \'closeup of the feets\' etc., I give -9 to anything that doesn\'t show the \'face\'.
-WIP ( I view this as an insult to CMON.)
-Multiple WIPs ( :cussing::mad::flame: )
-Pics that are obviously so bad that you can\'t say wtf it is, extremlly blurry, totally out of frame, etc...
-Pics with the hand showing or the guys living room as BG ( Okay it\'s a minor offence.)
- Another mini.
- Copy/paste of the Ebay text inside the comment sections, we\'re not all biders...

I feel a whole lot better now :D

@TheCadian: It\'s exactly what I meant when I commented your last article

I agree with much of Mike (DR) reply, but my take on it is simply this.

Let the poster figure it out for themselves. Through PM\'s, comments, or even low voting.

To be quite honest, as a moderator, we are looking for certain things to approve. File size, content, right category, stolen IP, etc. etc. There is just no practical way for the mods to keep track of which angle is already been approved.

It SHOULD be one of the criteria that one has to look through before posting.

This is exactly what I mean.

take a look here

http://www.coolminiornot.com/browse/page/3/low/8

He clearly knows how to montage, as he has them in his gallery.
Now the paint job is great, but the painter has even named them view 2, view 3 and straight after with his goblin.

The scores are consecutively high, so must boost his rating.

It\'s a shame as I am quite a fan of this guy, but it proves what I\'m saying.

...I am not alone!!
I automatically deduct several points for any WIP post. :flame:
Posters who know perfectly well how to montage and have obviously chosen NOT to also cheese me off. I tend to deduct a point or 2 on the \"extra\" shots for them as well.
I just don\'t vote on blurry shots at all.
Glad to vent!

I have to say I agree with this.

I hate seeing the same mini over and over. Every now and then I don\'t mind if there are say two shots, one far out and one detail, especially when requested and especially when they link the other images in the descriptions. Or when you have a Diorama with 8 guys on it, so 9 pics, on of each guy and one overall, that\'s fine too. But seeing the same guy turned 4 or more times on multiple entries drives me nuts. I have to fight the eurge to rate each one 1 point lower as I find them, every time.

WIPs I really think need to go in the forum or something. Something like Post complete minis only, if you are looking for help with a current project click here (link to WIP board).

Reflect your opinions in your votes/comments.

The Moderators job is incredibly complex...there are so many variables that have to be checked, one only often glances at the picture to make sure it\'s not porn.

If you want a highly sophisticated categorisation and moderation system then a free site manned by volunteers probably isn\'t the best place to look for it:innocent:

Almost all pics and comments (and forums)are moderated by Jim and Mike who do a wonderful job IMO.;)

I find multiple images of a miniature a minor issue compaired to all the WIP pictures.. the WIPs need to go.. in my opinion they shouldnt eve bee approved.

The worst thing about multiple posts s it screws up the top 10\'s and top of the last week..
I think the current one has 6 different models in it..
