a cat with a gastrostomy tube needs to revieve 500 Kcal daily. A 15-ounce can of a perscribed diet contains 2000 Kcal. The diet must be diluted 50:50 with water to flow through the tube, and a maximum of 60 mililiters can be given at 1 time. Approximately how many feedings does this cat need daily?

oi its been years since I\'ve had to do this.\0

hmm

I get an answer of: 4 feedings (3 full 60 mL feedings and 0.450245 mL for the last one)

THis is what i did: based on onlineconversion.com, 15 fluid ounces/4 = 3.75 which is 103.5074 mL.

103.5074*2 is the amount of water for a 50/50 ratio water mix.

That divided by 60 mL is around 3.45....

I hope that is correct....

Granddad!
well if it aint Sanj, the cat\'s dead and it will be all your fault!;);):D

either that or it\'ll get really fat!

You\'re about right Sanjay. You\'d need approximately 3 and a half feeds per day or 4 feeds of about 50ml. That\'s assuming my maths is correct, it was never my strongest subject.

15 US fluid ounces = 443.602943 milliliters

each feeding is 30 milliliters of stuff and 30 of water.

Each feeding of 30 milliliters gives 135.256091 Kcal

1 milliliter = 4.50853636 Kcal

3.69669119 feedings per day of 60 milliliter dilution

roughly 4 feedings of 22 milliliters and one feeding of 23 milliliters gives the required amount of 110.900736 milliliters (500Kcal) per day.

i think you would get about 4 feeds using 30 ml of water to each feed. to be more precise youd get 3.69 ish if i worked it out correctly???

is that fluid oz (volume) or weight oz (mass)?

Insufficient information.

Guessing (assuming) fluid oz\'s.

15 oz(fl) = 443.6 ml = 443.6 cc

cat needs 1/4 can (500 of 2000)
cat needs 111 ml of food
food has to be diluted with water for another 111 ml

Total intake for cat = 222 ml
max of 60 ml / feeding = 3.7 feedings :: gotta feed him 4 times per day.

hope that helps

Well, I would try to solve it, but it looks like you already have the answer. (Probably) and I don\'t like math......

Hmmm, sick cat eh? My solution requires MUCH less math and only ONE application to solve the problem.

I think I\'d be a bad vet though. Being a butcher is so much easier...

Of course when i looked at this i did it differently,
2000 kcal/500 kcal = 4
15oz/4=3.75 oz=500kcal
1oz(fl)=30ml 30mlx3.75=112.5 add water x2= 225ml
225ml/60 ml = 3.75 feeding
round up = 4 feedings daily.

lol you dont even want to see the other ones >< /sigh:drunk:
