Just wondering whilst looking at some of the planned releases from ForgeWorld and can\'t help but wonder who apart from Snajay would pay nearly £900 for the TAU MANTA

I know it is huge and supposedly very heavy but really the price is shocking just think of all the metal/pewter you could buy for that.

Come to think of it they want £32 for ten resin new IG SHOCK TROOPS

This is an old thread idea. And it\'s spelled \'buy\'. I\'m just that picky.

But on the subject of the manta, well, if I had bottomless pockets I\'d get one of these :D:flip:

HEY

HEY HEY

First you spell my name wrong and then you imply I would buy a manta.

I Would NOT buy the manta...I have no interest in large 40K stuff.

Now..if that was some giant D&D real scale dragon or tiamat or something cool for my lizardmen ...well then I\'d have to see if I could afford it with Shilpa, the home, shilpa again, honeymoon, etc :D

Tiamat eh? I do believe you have given me an idea.

Where can I find a mini of a baby unicorn?

On a related note my Dads council tax for the entire year is less than £900...

We dont pay council tax anymore! My dads been made redundant due to Swan Hunters shutting down! So no council tax, rent, tv lcense (we aint got one) and only £5 a week in gas and electric! Very cheap living!

But back to the manta, i wold buy one if i had the money, just so i could sit it in the middle of my room and think, f**k yea, iv got a MASSIVE bloody ship!
Dont think id every paint it though, or it would be a need a 5year plan or something! lol

well...

technically, xmas...we are having small ceremony here just to be legally married so that we can submit immigration forms in jan, but hindu ceremony will be in UK on june 22, 2006 :D

Shilpa\'s opinion is as long as bills are paid and we each put $x into savings for travel, kids, etc /month, then she doesn\'t mind me buying models....if i sell older crap to get them, she doesn\'t care at all.

But if cost gets too high, then it becomes harder to afford them unless it\'s a gift from her :D

but i do ask her if i want something very expensive and she has never said no (since i have been selling older stuff i no longer want to make room for new stuff)...it\'s how i got the: www.itscolossal.com dragon :D

Oh and I plan to sculpt a more to scale Tiamat at some point in future (and a tarrasque).

but in october i gotta start my Apollyon model for a GD for next year.

I had to do the conversion to make sure my math was right...1,675.8417 USD for this....I don\'t care if the thing is huge, that is absolutely insane.... Who in the hell do they think is going to buy this thing?

well, to play the devils advocate it does come with \"On the lower deck are eight Tau Battlesuits, two Devilfish troop carriers and two Hammerhead battle-tanks. \" - which are expensive in and of themselves.

On another note is the Tau megaforce value for money? And is it a good army for gaming? Im interested in getting one because its seems like great value but not to sure.

Hey who would of thought people would pay $600 + for a thunderhawk and yet I know a guy with 2.. same guy has a warhound titan too. So I think there will be more than one guy toteing one around at Gamesdat in a couple weeks. They wouldn\'t make it if they didnt think someone would buy it.

@ Grumb.....insane yes but people buy them.....how about Fredy\'s Tyrion at £1600....true a nice work of art but still insane.

I\'d buy the IG minis to be honest I do like them and 10 for 32 quid makes them 3.20 each, a little expensive yes but not excessively so, I like the Mantra but that is just way out of my price range.

An interesting set of replies I must say and a mixed bag, buying the Titans and a Baneblade yea=s I can understand that but I had my doubts last year when they brought out the base bits, they looked nice but the only real piece that I could think of using would be the landing pad.

I guess to a collector with deep pockets then this would be on the top of the list but I think if I had that much to spend at Forgeworld then I would buy a lot of other things first, possibly the troopers but possibly not :D

I suppose it is all relative. It does seem like alot of money, but compare it to many other \'adult\' hobbies (I am assuming Forgeworld is aiming for adults).

Compare to:

OUTDOORSMEN:

My father has spend $1600 on a shotgun before. $1200 for an electric trolling motor for his boat. Countless other dollars for every \'accessory\' one would need.

Model Trains:

I saw my Father in law plunk down $900 for 1 toy train engine! Thats just one in a series of crap he\'s got.

Bowling/Golf/billards/darts :

My neighbor spent $300 on a bowling ball. My uncle spent $400 on just 1 golf club. You could spend $1100 on a pool cue! Darts can go for $200 (for a set of 3).

Video Games/PC Games:

$1000 dollars would get a decent video game system and the accesories and games, but PC GAMERS spend thousands on computer equipment just so they can play games (believe me I know about this one...)

Scrapbooking/quilting/sewing:

A co-workers wife spend $3000 on a sewing machine!! Scrapbooking supplies aren\'t that expensive, but when they need \'one\' of everthing, it adds up.

My point?

Our hobby is not too far out of line with other forms of entertainment. And actually, taking Forgeworld out of the equation, its downright cheap to be a mini painter.

BUT, that Tau ship is $1700...how many hours would it take to build, paint, finish that thing?

Holy crap, I think I may have just talked myself into getting one!!!

lol
