Why do my minis get so low points?

WTF? Is this true? I\'ve been too nice to folk and have decided now to join the ranks of the bastards that snipe just to keep in with the crowd. If only I\'d known before!

But honestly, that\'s a bullshit statement

I really think that we need 2 catagories for voting. Minis intended solely for the tabletop should not be in the same voting class as display minis. Painting for the tabletop and painting for display are two very different disiplines.

I\'m a tabletopper and I LIKE having my mini\'s scored against the best there is.

It IS an eye opener when you put your figs up intitially.

would\'nt work, you would end up with people putting obviouos display stuff in with the table top stuff just to boost their scores.

i like the fact that you dont know whats coming next, could be a crappy piece of scenery or a 9.7 rated mini, its like lucky dip with scoring

I suppose you are right.

I\'m still with you about the scoring though. These Ultramarines I think are an example of people grading poorly. The guidelines are 5=tabletop standard and I find it appaling how some mini\'s in the 3-5 range get scored.

Vs \"Sad Pirate\" they may not stack up but from my experience most of these ultramarines would get comlpimented when on the table.

But waddaya do. Kester I recall you bringing up the harshness of the table quality model scores in another thread and I think you and I are in total agreement. My default score is 5, and entrants have to earn or lose points off that score when I grade. To get 4 or less it really has to look like the person didn\'t try. Y\'know, mould lines, paint all over the place etc.

These Ultramarines won\'t win a slayer sword, but there\'s certainly nothing horrible about them. I think the group shot should score much better.

It\'s unfortunate that tabletop quality is equated to a shoddy paint job. Tabletop painting is akin to stage painting, it comes together at a distance.It\'s done quickly to get them on the table, and bold so they look good in a crowd. Careful blending and freehand don\'t show well on a crowded table at a distance, not to mention that no is allowed to touch such careful work! :)

Do not think of your minis in terms of numerical score, think of them in terms of quality. They are tabletop quality, which I think is what you are going for, and the score reflects that. It is not a bad score it is just a representation of what people perceive to be the quality of the mini.

Personally I give them a 6. I think they look better than the average tabletop quality mini. I guess if you would like to improve you can try some more depth of color. Also using an edge highlight on guns and armor really helps marines and scouts look excellent. But you are doing a great job. Your models look fine. Do not let the voting system on this site discourage you. There are alot of snipers on this site that vote minis down just to be an annoyance.

Think of presentation as well. As tabletop painted miniatures are ment to be grouped together into squads/regiments such will in most cases be rated more highly. When posting them one by one you compete other single miniatures intended for display. However I bet if you paint Marneus Calgar to the same standard the scores would be more accurate.
