Why do people not vote?

Every mini I see has t least three to four times the views to votes ratio. I don\'t get it. ??? I mean, it only takes one click either way, right? So why not vote? I vote on every mini I see, with the ecxeptionn of when I click my account or a forum or something like that, and I know I don\'t do that three times as often as I vote. :innocent:
Oh well, just color me confused, I guess. And while you\'re coloring me confused, please vote. There\'s a lot less point to the site if we don\'t. :)

Probably due to the fact some people just push the next button. Other d not vote at all and some that do seem to give all one\'s for no apparent reason. It\'s like that way in most forums, too.. On Confederation du Dragon Rouge, most of my post get 100\'s of veiws, but only a few replies.. could be due to the fact I post in English and it\'s a French site, but... :p

I have not voted on anything yet for a couple of reasons. First of all, I have not posted any pictures yet. It seems to me to be a little like an armchair quarterback to criticise someone elses work when they can\'t return the favor. Secondly, one time I saw about 4-5 minis in a row that were horribly underscored. I decided to vote and vote high. For some reason it wouldn\'t let me. I figure that CMON has a feature that prevents me from voting without posting......or it\'s my incompetence with computers.

could be that sometimes..... the voter might feel that since he or she might not be a very good judge of mini painting/conversion quality....... after all I believe we are all biased towards some kinda mini.

Try again Jeff! You don\'t have to have any posted minis in order to be able to vote.

I always vote on minis but, because I have not been able (for a number of valid reasons) to be able to post any of my own work , I refrain from making any critical comments about others work. I feel this would be unfair. It does mean however that I may come across as the ultimate sycophant but what the hell. When I see a mini that blows my socks off, I want to congratulate the person responsible.

I dont\' know. I suppose people vote when they see something that some way or the other, produces a response from within.

Sometimes, people would just log in to see their scores, or check out the forums, but don\'t linger too much browsing at the pics for some reason.

Likewise, some would only vote on the pieces that fall within their area of interest, be it wargames minis, historicals, or resin kits.

stick to what I know

I will only vote on mini genres (?) that I am familiar with. If I see a battletech mini I skip it. I have never played the game or seen it played. I have on the other hand play D&D and most PC RPG\'s. I feel I am a better judge of these types of mini\'s. I also stay away from Tau and Necron as I am not familiar with them either. And I only leave comments if the painting is stellar or if the artist askes for comments.

yeah i stick with 40k stuff because thats all i pay attention to...

sometimes i\'ll see a really well painted confrontation mini or something, and i\'ll rate it high... but other than that i try to keep it in bounds.

Why I don\'t vote on some...

I believe that I am voting on minis on either their conversions and/or painting. Not their photography skills (the dn is coolminiornot, right? Not coolphotoornot.)

If a photo submitted is too blur, small, dark, bright or flashy, what\'s the point of voting? IMO, I wouldn\'t vote on a pic that falls into the above few criterias.

PS: Sorry to say this, but based on years of photograhy experience (both positive and negative film and digital photograhy and film and digital \"darkroom\" skills) and computer engineer skillsets, certain pics had been digitally altered to \"enhance\" its appeal and hence garner a higher score. Eg. lighting, richness of colours....don\'t believe me...look carefully next time...

I don\'t really vote that often on minis I guess! I don\'t tend to sit and trawl through pic after pic just to browse and vote! If I\'m to-ing and fro-ing from page to page and site to site, or if I just want to upload pics or something, I just don\'t bother voting on everything. If you vote on the first pic that appears, another one takes its place which needs voting on! At some point you\'ve got to say \'f*** this\' and go and do what you originally intended otherwaise you\'d never get of the damn computer!

If I do browse the images though, I will vote. It\'s just that there are times when you don\'t want to get caught up in just looking at pics.

Whenever I log on, I try my best to vote on every pic I see from all genres. I thought it would be fair not to neglect the other more obscure mini\'s out there.
And of course, everytime you vote, there\'s always more that comes up. But if I don\'t vote, it\'s cause I\'ve pretty much stopped voting for that moment and went surfing somewere else. But I\'ve always felt a bit guilty not voting on that last pic.
:/

I try leaving some comments whenever I can if I have some thoughts on the mini. But between voting so much and those comments, I\'m afraid that I\'ve ran out of things to say and end up repeating myself. Sorry about that folks.
But some comments are better than none?

But I have to admit, there were a few times were I saw a few 4\'s and below and I really wanted to leave a comment, but all I had to say were negative stuff, so I was afraid that person might of been affended on what I\'d say. So yea, if I don\'t have anything nice to say, than don\'t say it at all, right? no? maybe?....

Alright, speaking as one who a) has little or no life and b) has much time to kill at work, where its okay for me to browse the internet...

I\'ve voted on virtually everything on the site (currently a little behind from the weekend), some of them more than once so I use .5\'s. However, there are times when I view without voting. Such as if I\'m looking for a specific image as a reference or I want to compare multiple version of the same sculpt or similar sculpts.

As far as comments go, I agree with finn. Until I post some of my oen work here, I refrain from making comments too critical of others.

It might be because non members views are added to the total (I noticed this happened before I joined) but they are unable to vote. I try to vote for the majority of minis I view as I know that I get a kick out of seeing votes add up on my minis (even if the scores aren\'t always what I hoped for).

But seriously....

You\'re supposed to IMAGINE that you\'re a golden demon judge...

That gives u every right to vote...whether you can paint as well as those that you are voting.

I just realized that the way I read the forums usually means for each forum thread I read I have to view without voting on one image.

what?????

Since when are non-members not allowed to vote. I voted on this site long before I got an account. I\'m almost certain of it. And I\'m definitely certain that I have voted on several minis in a row before realizing that I hadn\'t logged in.

I like to view the same minis over and over. Especially if I\'m trying to imitate a painting style or admire the artist\'s mastery. I often don\'t vote on models a second, third, fourth, etc. time because I feel I have made my judgement. If I feel like I did not give the model a fair shake the first time, I\'ll vote again. Otherwise I\'ll let it go.

These viewings account for a quarter of all of the minis I view. Perhaps not that many, but a lot.

Also, if I want to go to the forums I have to chose to NOT vote on a mini. This probably happens a lot. The same is true if I want to check my account, or browse images. Even if you want to specify Catagory or Manufacturer it will require leaving a mini behind without a vote.

Maybe I was voting before I joined? I tried and it didn\'t seem to do anything so I presumed you had to be a member first. If that is the case then I am surprised that there are so many viewings without votes.
