Why don\'t some people name their minis?

I haven\'t posted anything yet, but I plan to follow NSA\'s advice when I do.

I find it so irritating when I see a whole bunch of posts by the same person all titled \"Another mini\". I usually don\'t even bother to look at them, let alone vote or comment.

I tend to go back and search for things fairly often (maybe I should set up a favorites list), and it\'s hard enough to find what I\'m looking for if I can\'t remember the name of the mini or painter. I probably miss a lot of good stuff because it was called \"another mini\" and I just ignored it.

shoot!

When I read the title of this thread, I thought....hmmm

You see, I thought you meant actually give NAMES to all my MINIS (not just submissions)....

I walked right into my little hobby room and started throwing names around.

Bill, Henry, Charlie, Sophie, Alexis, John, Henry Jr., Fred, Bob, Chris, Grishnac....

You get the idea, after 100 or so names, I got tired and just read the rest of the thread. Boy is my face red.lol

Bother me? Nope. not at all.It\'s my way of handling it. You skip it, I voice what a lot of other people are probably thinking.

Hmmmmm how about just skipping the un-named mini, you seem to be letting it bother you a bit to much. I dont like voting on backviews but that does\'nt mean im going to give them an underservig mark just because of my personal preferences.

I have a confession. I thought the samething at first. I was thinking,\"I name my Mordheim Warband members. But not all of my minis.\"lol

My comments are constuctive too. I\'m asking; \"Why put all of that time and effort into the miniature only to be lazy in presenting it to people all over the world?\" Kind of silly if you ask me.

I’m not here to coddle. How hard is it to go and fix a Mistake? If you don’t know just ask. Not to mention, I have seen some of your comments that I thought were harsh. So I think it’s in the eye of the beholder.

I\'m not here to coddle either. I make harsh (but usually constructive) comments when they\'re justified. And I send personal messages to encourage people to name their minis. Not for every un-named mini, just the better painted ones. It\'s always a mystery to see an 8.0 painter who didn\'t name their work ???

Good point about the informational value of a name. It does help to know what a mini is called by the manufacturer, if you want to buy one! Also a good reason to put a note on your submission if the manufacturer is \"other\".

Just bumping this thread. And if anybody sees another person labeling their submissions, drag them by their toes here, show them the beginning of the thread and see if they learn from it.

I think that for the most part people are just lazy! I guess there could be the occasional I forgot the name or did not notice the place for naming it when they uploaded the pict. But I am pretty sure they are just lazy.

I find it iratating that they don\'t label it but I don\'t vote it down because they did not name it.

I agree with Drake there. You could still leave a comment to tell them if you really want but I think voting it down because of it is wrong.

For everyone\'s information

All comments are moderated by myself.
I moderate for profanity, total idiocy, and exessive negativity. I do not moderate for poor taste.

However, if I get a very negative comment and a \'1\' on a mini that is clearly well painted and presented...I will often delete it.

Why?

Because the person offering such a comment then goes away and lives happily ever after, whilst I am left to deal with incensed comments from the authors which I then might have to delete, although I obviously owe them an explanation, so I have to PM them etc. etc.
It\'s a bit like starting a fight in a pub and then dodging out through the backdoor.

By all means, voice your criticicm, but do it in a way that is constructive and helpful, otherwise you will simply be wasting your energy and time. Alternatively, if you really want to vent your spleen...PM or email them.

By the way, as a collector, there is possibly only one other person on this site who hates un-named minis more than I do:D

Nope. I have tons of things I have to do. I don\'t have time to PM every lazy person who I come across. Saying I\'m lazy for giving them a one is the silliest thing I have ever heard.

Let\'s be real. Votes don\'t mean jack on this site. How many people have we seen post threads complaining that they aren\'t getting the votes they deserve? Everyone always says ignore it. Atleast I tell you that what you are doing is pretty lame. And I\'m giving a lame score to show it.They definitely remember it.

Why don\'t the moderaters, or web designers put in big red letters a notice that says \"Not naming your work is frowned upon. Try to have a name or information for the viewers\"? That way there won\'t be any whining when it happens. There problem solved.

It\'s really simple, isn\'t it?

Just being objective, if you\'re so angry that someone was too lazy to name a mini, isn\'t just giving them a 1 score and moving on also just the \"easiest\" thing to do?

If you\'re so against unnamed mins, write a polite PM, stressing the points of naming minis, as mentioned above, that you can repeatedly copy and paste to the \"offenders\". Giving a low score is just treating laziness with laziness.

You want the minis named? Do the work to get them named. If enough people politely request the same person to name their minis, they\'ll probably do it, especially if you say stuff like,\"Great mini, but could give it a title so I can find it in a search to {show friends, use for reference, etc.}?

Believe me, pestering is something every married woman around here should be familiar with :D Use it!

Just my thoughts...

Maybe start a group- P.A.U.M. : Painters Against Unnamed Minis

:D

Well I have been known to tell small children he don\'t exist and then get drunk and shoot at his sleigh to get me some raindeer meat.
But that is just a guess.
Most of my minis I call them my presscioussss- then translate it to a name you all might understand.
