Why I do it!

I started painting minis when I was about 10 years old because I got Heroquest for xmas. Lost interest at about 15.

Then 2 years ago my wife fell ill and because her Chemotherapy kept her in bed alot I just started up again - best thing I ever did. It relaxed me and it was an escape from all the shit that was going on at the time.
Things are alot better now and I reckon I'm in for the long hall with this painting lark now!

Just thought I'd get that off my chest

I paint because my wife watchs crap tv in the evening and it drains the essence of whats left of my soul(traded most of it to get a girl in school)

I started painting at like 9 playing 2nd ed of 40k. My dad always painted Airfix kits so it was a good start from there really.

This hobby does help fade the real world. That's hugely important at times.

I've always been fascinated with scale models, especially the little people. Although weird, I like to imagine little stories concerning them while painting. Plus, its a very nice creative outlet.

The games seem kinda cool, but I don't really get to do that very often. I'm pretty content just painting them up.

Yes shes great, its been two years so far (it was breast cancer, shes only 39) they wont give all clear until 5 years but all the test are ok. Cheers for asking

That's a good deal! I've got a couple of friends here at work that are cancer survivors, and it's a very scary situation.

It relaxes me, and keeps me from thinking about my miserable luck with the ladies.
One of these days, I should put the brushes down and try going out to meet more people.

Although weird, I like to imagine little stories concerning them while painting.

hehe, me too. Sometimes I even imagine them becoming alive in the display cabinet. Well, only the fully painted ones really. I make sure that there are always some good looking ladys in there, so things don`t get too boring for them. Yes. I`m retarded like that :-D

On topic: I started with plane models after I found some old enamels and unfinished kits in my fathers old room. I was raised as a total pacifist but he couldn`t keep me away from tanks and planes if he did them himself as a kid.
Later on, I began my journey into geekhood when some friends started MtG and RPGs. Soon thereafter both interests came together in the form of WHFB. Stopped for a while after I moved to another school where acceptance for nerds was low but started again at university when art history sparked my interest in painting anew.

Understand that 10Ball. Same situation here, but hit her at 50. (2006)
Its the feeling of helplessness in not being able to "fix" something that hits the partners.

Originally started with models waaaaaay back in the 60's, Airfix tanks etc, migrated into Napoleonics in early 70's, picked up Fantasy in the late 80's and have spent a mortguage's worth of money with GW and others ever since.
