An interesting case. There used to be quite a lot of activity here—artist rankings; every miniature could count on votes and comments. You’d think that as more people took up this hobby, the traffic would increase. I myself voted on over 50,000 miniatures in the past. Now it’s hard to say whether anyone even visits anymore. I stopped voting; I don’t see the point in being “the last person” doing it. I wonder what tipped the balance.
My theory: the option to post auctions. The moment a hobby site turned into a way to make money, the amount of paid content grew to astronomical levels. No one feels like clicking through 50 works by someone churning out mass-produced pieces for sale.
I think it’s a mistake to have the best artists as the default page. It should be recently posted miniatures instead. That gives a sense of what’s actually happening in the hobby, not just a handful of unattainable geniuses.
It’s a pity—there probably isn’t another place like this that would allow for a reasonably objective evaluation and comparison with others.
