Why! Oh why?

Well, I think there are a couple of niggles. The gloss is kinda detracting from the mini, and while in real life it may look great, I don\'t know if the camera picked up enough of the highlights of the mini as a whole. I\'d also recommend waitin\' a bit, as it usually takes awhile to sort out the true score/get some comments. 50 votes ain\'t that much, so just be patient, and good things\'ll come your way!

The second one is better, but it still looks like you are being a bit tentative on your highlights. I really can\'t see them very well at all. Your painting is clean and the skeleton part looks good. But judging from the pictures here, this falls within the 4-5 range for me. I gave it a 5. Keep at it, you will only improve with the practice!

Without sounding mean and evil, rather trying to be helpful....
First the photo is not good. Voters have no way of knowing that it looks \"pretty good\" in real life, as all they have is a photo.
Second, as Kevin mentioned, the skeletal parts look okay. Not great mind, but not bad. However, the clothing bits have no real visible highlights or shading.
Third, the base. He could be put on a round Warhammer base with a touch of grass or flock, and it would do wonders for you
Fourth, the gloss is not good. It may be responsible for losing the highlights.
Lastly, the HUGE white area can hurt the eyes, especially if you view the site with the black background like me. Gut reaction dictates to move on and not examine the picture. If you crop it right ot the actual photo, it might help.

I looked at a bunch of your minis, and they are all about the same for the painting. To start breaking into the 6 range you need to be thinking about 5 layers of color. Darklining, and a fancier base. Getting into the 6 means some people have to be giving you 7 or more. That means some people gotta look at your mini and say \"COOL\". Hang in there. When you get one it feels better than if you were getting it without a lot of work.

hmm, I don\'t really see much in the way of highlights, more of just one layer and an ink wash (resulting in the glossyness perhaps?). Also, I agree it needs a completed base to score higher. It\'s kind of an ugly mini itself, and the lack of complete arms doesn\'t help either, so I think it might be sufering a bit from that too.

You asked how to remove the white space. What photo editing software do you use? Somewhere it should have a \"Crop\" command or something similar. That\'s what you\'d use. Define the area you want saved and then invoke \"Crop\" and it should remove everything else.
IT would be easier to give more specific instructions if I knew what you were using.
