Well, I hit relationship hobby jackpot last week when I asked my wife to be my doubles partner in a friendly tourney coming up in 6 months. She is not a hobbyist and has only painted a couple of models before but has enjoyed that aspect of the hobby. She said yes and is starting an army next pay. We have planned out our lists and will both start from scratch with little armies. It could be a great experience we can share and i'll be posting progress pics up here soon.

She is doing Dark Elves and i'll be doing vampire counts.

I am excited about this development as it's taken me a few years to soften her up towards the hobby. fingers crossed it goes well.

will keep you posted real soon.

Good for you! The Lady Inquisitor (my wife) likes to see what I've painted and will play the rare friendly game, but The Agent of Chaos (my daughter) loves to throw down dice. She's 3 & 1/2 and I have her firmly convinced that the louder she yells "dakka dakka" the more sixes she rolls  I'm such a nerd. Good thing nerd stands for Never Ending Radical Dude...

You win, you're in the dog house. You let her win, you're in the dog house. You lose legitimately and you're accused of losing on purpose....'welcome to the dog house....single room sir?'

Only messing. I love that couples can share hobbies. I keep trying to get my wife to paint alongside me but to no avail. She isn't arty and I think is worried about me being critical.

Have fun and prosper!

Thanks for the well-wishes guys. :)
On Thursday we went to the local GW to get some toys, we picked up some Dark Elf Corsairs and skeleton warriors, ordered in some witch elves, the cool sartosan pirate and some coffin lid shields. we got to work on the corsairs straight away and it turns out my wife shares the same hobby pet peeve with me...removing mould lines

after a couple of evenings of hobby the unit of corsairs are almost done, and here they are...View attachment 20108
We used female heads from the Dark eldar Wych box set. The bride wants to do an all female army, which is pretty cool and will only require some minor converting for the most part. We decided not to try and give the chest plates of the armour any boobs because quite frankly elves are meant to be quite petite in that regard and while it would have been possible with a bit of green stuff it's probably not a good idea to bite of more that she can chew hobby-wise for her first project and in her words "I don't think ladies who are that buff would have much in the way of boobs" which is kinda a good point when you think about it with female body builders and female professional athletes as an example. Yes there are exceptions of course :p
I guess that is not how women are portrayed in miniature form, usually being portrayed as overly buxom etc but it kind of makes sense. Sometimes I think that the proportions on female models must be so far out there that if they were real life then they would have some serious lower back issues.

The only exception to this I think is Werner's female sculpts. Werner's sculpts are often heroic scale in the head department so that leaves other anatomical issues if it was represented in an actual person. All that said these are toys stylised to be interesting to paint and game with so meh.

I have been building some skeleton warriors while this is going on, they are just normal skellies so theres no point waffling on about them.

peace out

Hey guys/gals. Heres a bit of progress on our little hobby adventure.

Last night we hit the paint big time and stayed up past midnight (way past our bed time). Bride got a test model basecoated and washed and I got 10 skellies basecoated and dry brushed. Today I base coated, shaded and layered this necromancer, still got plenty of work to go but this peice has been an experiment in drab colour palette. I saw a guide on doing washed out models and thought it would look cool. The idea is that my army should look like it belongs in an old faded photograph. There was a pic of the skellies but I deleted it thinking I had posted it and now CBF'd taking another one.

Peace out
Andy
