So do you recomend getting the Winsor & Newton Series 7 Kolinsky Miniature Painting Brush or the Winsor & Newton \"Series 7\" Kolinsky Pointed Round Series 7? And in what sizes. I see that Tooshy says she uses size 1?

What size of brush are you usually comfortable with using? Different people like different brushes, some prefer the largest possible that can still hold a sharp point and some like really small ones. Use the size you normally use if you\'re comfortable with that! Personally I use mostly a size 0 (pointed round) and a size 000 (miniature) for small details and texture effects. That works very well for me and for my techniques, but some would say get a bigger one! :innocent: Depends on your preferences and your techniques.

i\'m not sure if you are directing your question to me, but I will try to answer it.
I use a size 1 for most of my work as well, but kept it quiet as I may be thought of as a bit large!!!
I use the smaller ones for eyes etc. If you can afford it I would get a selection of sizes and see which ones are better for your painting. I use these ones........

But also use a size 2 in the Series 7 Artists\' Watercolour Sable Brush, for large areas, these have a longer hairy bit!

Cool thanks Anders. I kind of thought that, but I wanted to make sure. Normally I use 20/0 and 1. Suprisingly my best 1 is a gw brush that I left in the water over night and the cats have run off with it a time or 2.

Thanks for the info as well krom. I was just talking to the masses. But in matters like this any info is good info.
The \'miniature\' brushes are simply shorter versions of the standard ones. Because the bristles are shorter, brush control is supposed to be better. But, they hold less paint, and the paint seeps more quickly into the ferrule. This last point is what deters me from them, because it would simply mean a lot more rinsing vs. painting time for me.

Plenty of rinsing is good for all brushes. Read Kaple\'s brush care article on his site. And I have much better control for small details with the miniature brushes. But, it\'s a matter of personal preference what you like to use. I don\'t like to have lots of paint stored in my brush when I do small details, thus the miniature brushes are perfect for me.

Not trying to cut out rinsing, but on the amount of rinsing. These days, I seem to paint, rinse, load, rinse, load, wipe and then only get back to painting, \'cos some the paint is creeping too high. Anything that lets me actually paint every 1 second out of 5 instead of 20 is a help.
Not rinsing is bad. Rinsing too much is also bad.

And the brushes he mentions are his own brand. His shop lists his brushes at 8 EUR each, which is about US $10.15. I just bought some Series 7 brushes at brick-and-mortar stores and paid about $13-14 each, including tax. Prices are cheaper online (even at the online stores of the B&Ns I just went to, Dick Blick and Pearl than they were in-store) but I didn\'t have to pay shipping, so I figure I came out about the same, plus I have them in my hand now rather than waiting for them to arrive. But I suppose the best deals on either type will depend on a range of factors such as where you are, what currency you use, how much for shipping, etc.
