Winged Vampire

Hi, I just finished this vampire dude. I decided to paint it NMM becasue I haven\'t done much of that lately, and I also wanted a contrast between cold and warm colours.
The skin and armour is painted with quite cold colours and white highlights, whereas I\'ve used warmer tones for the wing and cloak with bone highlights. It kinda worked I think.

Some pics are a little out of focus, sorry about that, but my camera clearly isn\'t designed for this kind of photography:(.

Anyway, here\'s pics:

Oh, and if you ever want to paint this, paint the head separately..I didn\'t and it was a nightmare to try to reach in between all those boney spikes!

Cheers, Anja

wow. i don\'t understand why there appears to be a spine coming out of the top of his shoulders.

model aside, it is a lovely paint job and the nmm is fan-bloody-tastic

Loving the tempered steel nmm. I\'m not a fan of the orangy-red of the cloak but that\'s just my personal colour tastes so I won\'t hold it against the model.

Incidentally what lighting setup do you use for the photos?

I just use three of the lamps at work, which are very similar to these.

I don\'t have a photo set-up at home, although that might change soon as I\'m moving house.

And thanks for the comments guys :)

Beautiful paintjob, Anja! I am not a fan of the model itself, but the painting is really top notch. I like the colour of the armour a lot.

Excellent work!

I like the whole colour scheme, I also can\'t criticise anyone over photography.

Good stuff :D

Hmm, those lamps are unfortunately out of my price range but thanks for the info anyway.

That\'s lovely... I love the saturated colours and boldness of it.

As usual, you\'ve worked some serious mojo!

Cheers guys,

@Squidders, yeah I thought I\'d go for something more striking since my last piece was more natural looking. That\'s what\'s fun with painting outside of work, the freedom to choose :)

Fun or not, you\'re certainly showing us some seriously nicely painted minis!

I\'m hoping you continue to have fun :D

You lot in the \'Eavy Metal team decided to have a competition amongst yourselves?
Cos you are all pushing out some cracking pieces lately.

Lovely work Anja, they should have used that piece for White Dwarf and shown what high class painting is all about.

Well, the one thing that really popped for me on this model was the wing. Its very pretty and I like it!

Great painting!! :) The armour is brilliant! Compositionwise this mini is difficult because of the wing and posture, you did well, but I think that the skin should have been a bit brighter still and especially the face to work as more of a focal point. It took a while before I started looking at the face and while I had a joyous travel before I finally reached it.. it for me makes the miniature more of a combination of beautiful parts then a whole.

Anyway great work again! :D

Great work again anya i love the clean and crispness of the whole model. Each part seems to go well together and fit.

I especially like the tempered steel as its different and refreshing. And the gold compliments it nice as well

Masterpiece.

Masterpiece, I love the NMM - gorgeus!
Paintjob is simply awesome. No more to say.

Again, thanks for the comments!

Avelorn, yeah I know what you mean but I don\'t think the skin came out as light as it actually is in the photos. As you can see on the back view it is quite light, but the wing puts the front of the figure in shadow, so it appears a bit darker. I could probably have gone a bit lighter though :)

Simply brilliant, I love the colours, the NMM, and the smoothness of the paintjob. It is so inspiring for painters like me to see work like this! Thanks for posting Anja!

Sometimes I wish I could see something of this quality in some WIP shots.. for somebody hovering around the 6 rating with their work, I often wonder what pieces like this look like as they are being done. Is one section finished at a time? is it all base-coated and then shaded/highlighted, as with painting batches of models, is it all painted cleanly right through, or is it painted quicker, and things tidied up later. etc. etc.

Very well done! =)
