WIP: Ashan\'Tyr

Hi there

I\'m currently painting Rackham\'s Ashan\'Tyr figure and I need some comments/guidance/advice/whatever \'cos I\'m getting my knickers in a knot :rolleyes:

For starters I\'m trying to have a go at blending, using lots of layers with very thin paint. Plus I\'m also attempting to shade white, which I hate because I never know what colours to use :(

I started by painting her hood white & then attempted to paint highlights & low lights. But....having read some stuff online, I then decided to paint her hood in a sandy colour and then hightlight up from there, using the base colour as the \'shade\'. With me so far? ???

So..the issues are:

1. Have I done this the right way?
2. Does it look ok?
3. What could I do better?
4. Any other comments......

PS This blending thingy PAH! :rolleyes: Never have I used so little paint, in so many layers, over so much time for.......what I hope is a good result :innocent:

It\'s looking really good tooshy, but I think you could\'ve gone a bit more darker with the shadow, maybe just by one or two shades. Also I think brownish white cloth looks better highlighted with a bit of white-grey, but you miht wanna try that on the bands on her feet. Once agin, good job and keep at it! :D

Actually, what you\'ve done so far looks gorgeous!! :)
I really like the sandy look of the hood, it would look nice (in my opinion) to keep up the all-around desert look of the Wolf. Would love to see the end-result.

Chrispy - I\'ll bear your comments in mind re the leg bindings. It\'s a small enough area to try it out & if it all goes horribly wrong I can start again!

Tuubje - I hadn\'t thought about a desert colouring for the whole figure, but now that you mention it, it sounds cool. Whilst I have a good imagination, I lack any decent art skills, so I find it very difficult to translate what\'s in my head onto a figure. I have to \'see\' how someone has painted something, hence I usually just copy any colour pics I can find. Perhaps I\'ll be brave enough to do a Tooshy original!!

Kat - thanks for your comments. I really love your work - all those \'cute\' fluffy puppies lol Wolfen & Devourers are my fave Rackham models :D

I also like the sansy feel, but maybe I can suggest touching up the transitions for the blending to be a little smoother. Wish I could do that myself :D.

Loadsa layers....

Yup I know what you are saying U4. It\'s the \'blending\' of the layers that is keeping me foxed at the moment :( I can understand the principals, but mastering it is bloody difficult!

The paint dries on the pallet too quickly and also on the model too - give me some oils and I\'ll get it in one :D

Try using KY Liquid as a thinning agent - it sounds kinda kinky but it works as many folks here can attest.

Erm.......

there\'s only one thing in the UK I know of that\'s called KY and I ain\'t putting that stuff on my model.......

.....even if I had any :innocent: :rolleyes:

You might not believe this....I didn\'t....at first...

KY is commonly used as an \'extender\' (Ooo..errr missus!). I thought people were joking at first too, but apparantly it does work. It\'s no dafter than using floor polish after all.

I am just praying I don\'t get really confused and attempt to use floor polish as a sexual lubricant. lol

well if you did you\'d only end up with a shiny kno...... oh erm, I think you get the idea.

Well I\'m still not sure about this \'advice\' - it seems a little whacky to me :wow:

I have already got a shiny one of those. I nearly polished it off when I was about 14lol

What can I say.......

... I\'m lust for words. I never knew KY was available as a liquid. Next time I go into a chemist I\'ll have to get some - might be tricky explaining to the woman on the till that its for painting with...... maybe I\'ll say nothing and just look suitably embarassed as usual.... :rolleyes:

Just make sure you use the liquid not the jelly - We\'ve also got a new type of KY over here that has a warming effect - dont think I\'d want to use it on a figure though (unless . . . . . nah thats to kinky for me even) lollollollollol

Regarding the mini, I like it as it is. I\'d go over all the folds carefully (to me it seems there are some on the top of her head that still have not been shadowed), and that\'s it. I like it!

Phew... I\'m relieved that I have now reached an age where sense warns me not to visit this link .... now... where\'s the emote with a sweating brow ???
