WIP-Bretonnian Archer

Yes, I know, crap lighting. That just so happens to be what you get when you are too tired to whip out another lamp at 1:00 AM. Anyway the following is a Bretonnian Archer I\'ve been experimenting with the past two days. I\'ve been able to try out my new flesh technique (which I will most definitely be sticking with) and have also moved on to feathering (pulling the wet paint into the darker areas to blend, took me long enough!) which has been apinstakingly applied to each individual \"lump\" in his lower cloak (mind you I\'ve only completed 10-12 squares of it).

I\'ve been trying to go for the earthy peasant look with the Bretonnian models I have so greens, browns and yellows dominate all of the minis.

Any feedback on the colourscheme, flesh tones, blending, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Go ahead, be harsh, I haven\'t spent nearly the time on him that I would on other minis, after all he is just a practice piece.

Ok you were asking for some help & suggestions well: --

As you can see I took the liberty of capturing the photo to demonstrate what I was thinking.

You have the direction of light coming from the top right hand side of the mini and so you need to keep all your highlights closest to that light source (a bit of OSL), which means that to do the front of the mini, the highlights on the yellow quilting will have to be on the corners away from the Bow.

Also I think that the Yellow needs a minor shadow wash inserting into the creases. I\'ve painted this in much darker than I would expect it to be, just to demonstrate.

Lastly the area of the tunic between his legs needs to be shaded out otherwise is would make the mini look as if the quilting was rather thin.

The skintone is nice and I think that if you\'ve found a formula that you are happy with then stick to it.

Hope this helps.

I\'m glad you pointed this out as I likely would have painted all of the yellow going towards the right hand corners rather than towards the light source which I (inadvertantly) created.

I was planning on doing this as it is obvious is needs some stronger contrasts. I was planning on using thinned snakebite leather to ink the areas.

Once again, was to be done after finishing up the other areas. However I\'ll make note not to forget.

Glad to help some one learn from MY mistakes. lol

Yes Snakebite Leather and Sunburst Yellow work well together and you can always mix the two together to create a Mid-Shadow tone for the folds of the tunic.
:D
