WIP Daemon Army

Hey everybody. It\'s been quite a long time since I last posted on CMON and thought I would come back to it. I haven\'t painted for my own army in a while, but thought that I should change that also since doing only commission work can really get you burnt out(some of you know what I mean). I was inspired to do this army after seeing the gorgeous models and a little bit of excitement from Baltimore GD the other week.

So far, I have planned about 1000 points army list. Once done, I will continue from there, but my goal is just a 1000 points (if I make it that is...I get so caught up on moving to a different project or model so easily). So far in my list I have:

HQ:
Skull Taker - 175 pts

Troops:
3 units of 8 Bloodletters each w/icon and fury - 489 pts
Heavy:
1 Soul Grinder w/Phlegm - 160 pts
1 Daemon Prince w/mark of khorne and iron hide - 125 pts

Total - 949 points

On with the test bloodletter. Please let me know what you think and what I can do to improve. I\'m only looking for table top quality (least), but will take time to do showcase quality on some models.

Sorry about any bad images. Please bear.

Looks good. I\'d like to see a bit more definition on the sword and horns. Just a touch brighter on the edges. The skin is very nice! This will be a very sharp looking army.

Looks great! I\'m just starting on Daemons myself and it seems like we have chosen similar models. How long are do you think it will take you to get a unit of bloodletters done?

@Bauhaus86- well i went back and re-touched up the horns and wpn like mattsterbenz mentioned (pics to come soon). I got a second model pretty much almost done, just need to do eyes, sword, and nmm. I also have 4 other bloodletters base coated and inked. I\'m guessing maybe another 4-5 days for a unit if I keep at it and not distracted :)

Feel free to post up pics of your daemon army or models as this thread is \"WIP Daemon Army\" not just for my own use

Great job on that bloodletter and welcome back into the fold. You make me want to put my little guys together and get a move on. Great job on that guy though.

How did you start on him? I\'m assuming you used a black primer, but from there on? I know Matt has a specific system he\'s told us about to get the minis out quickly but beautifully. Care to enlighten us? You may be the kick in the pants that many of us need to get going lol

You using blending or small gradual layers? They look very smooth. Great job, man :)

Sorry for the lack of update recently. Been very busy with work this past week and didn\'t get much done. Plus the mini\'s taking really long time to paint each. I will be going away tomorrow for the week for vacation for the 4th so I\'ll throw up an update for you guys.

@ redarmy27- It\'s actually pretty long...lol, but i\'ll try my best to let you know how I did it. Most of the painting steps are a combination of layering and blending. I kinda do it by eye, which ever makes the model look nicer

Skin:
1. after primer, i do a watered down base coat of GW foundation Charadon Granite. I like to do this watered down base coat only because I get to see the details a bit better and the model comes out a bit lighter overall (not much from black primer, but a little bit).
2. Then I base coat with Mechrite Red
3. new citadel black inkwash
4. highlight with blood red
5. highligt with blazing orange
6. highlight with fiery orange
7. baal red ink wash followed by 1:2 water:black ink wash after the red wash dries

Nails and Teeth:
1. Khemri Brown base coat
2. graveyard earth highlight
3. bleach bone hightlight
4 skull white highlight

Tongue:
1. Warlock purple
2. Asurmen blue ink wash
3. warlock purple highlight
4. tenticle pink highlight
5. 1:2 warlock purple:water wash

Blade:
1. Top half painted mechrite red
2. Bottom half painted chaos black and then blended into the mechrite red
3. black ink was
4. blood red blended on top portion
5. blazing orange blended to top portion leaving red showing
6. fiery orange highlighted
7. 1:2:1 badab black ink:baal red ink:water wash over entire sword
8. 1:2 fiery orange:water highlight on tip (2-3 coats)

NNM:
1. Calthan Brown basecoat
2. vermin brown blend
3. snakebite leather blend
4. bubonic brown
5. golden yellow
6. badmoon yellow
7. skull white
