WIP Daemonette Chaos Space Marine Army - Novice painter & modeller

Hi,

I have started modelling a slaanesh / nurgle 40k chaos army. The plan is to have lots of crazy daemonettes doing stuff like hanging off the back of bikes, pole dancing ontop of rhinos etc. So far I have modded up 3 bikes which are painted about as well as I can paint (see bottom pic), a couple of terminators and my boss on her bright pink motorcycle. I will go back and do more work on the terminators and lord I think since I know I can do better. The big problem I have at the moment I think is trying to go too extreme with the highlighting colours and not thining paints enough. I think a more subtle blend and some blacklining could really improve my work.

I am looking mostly for advice on painting / converting but also welcome ideas for cool things daemonettes can do or cool models that would fit in (I have looked at sisters of battle but they are too power armoury, I get my hands/legs from dark elf succubi atm).

PS: Is there a way to resize these images they are massive atm... I tried:

Fantastic idea and lovely boobs....errh conversions.

But too much pink!

I love slaanesh as a chaos god(ess) bit would love to see an army done in purple and golds instead of hot pink.

You have a great imagination for these ladies. I don't really think you are going too extreme on the highlites but the stark transition from light to dark makes it look like that. Start by thinning your paint, this is the single most important thing to remember when painting with acrylics. Look at investing in a wet palette or make one at home, they help in thinning and saving your paint for multiple sessions. Start reading as many SBS' on painting as you can, you will slowly discover some of the secrets to fine painting. Also keep asking questions, these guys in the forum will offer loads of tips and advice.

I agree with what was said above. Its a tad too hot pink, mainly on the hero biker chick. I really like how it turned out on the terminators and back seat biker babes though.

I agree with Milosh. I think the highlights on the pink, blue, and green look fine... you just need to work on the transitions. Thin down the paint more. A wet palette is pretty cheap and easy to make, there are plenty of tutorials online. I'd also start making some more intermediate mixes (1, 2, 3, or more) between your base and highlights or base and shadow. That and thinner coats will help smooth out those transitions. But you do want to have a significant range between highlight and shadow, it will make those small scale figures look much better.

As for everything else, you're well on your way to a great looking army. You've got a lot of creativity there. I'm sure the finished army is going to be amazing.

Built myself a wet palette and have to say I am loving it! the paint stays wet permenantly. Modelled and painted up my flamer girl. She rides into battle on the back of a plague marine because if you've got a plague marine why wouldn't you?

I was going to give her a missile launcher but I didn't have one so flamer it is. I really went wet with the paint this time and it's much less visible with the transitions although the transitions are less extreme atm.

Have started on a daemonette heldrake. I like how the texture on the wings has turned out, I used a soldering iron to melt the surface (made sure to wear a mask). I am happy with the painting on the model and the green on the wings but the metal is not as nice as I want it. I want a more rusted appearance. At the moment I used boltgun metal then stipled bronze and then stipled light bronze to try and give it a rusted look.

Would welcome all suggestions and particularly on how to get a better rusted look (most of the tutorials I see are quite messy and could mess up the green sections). I have ordered some 1mm silver wire so she will have some reigns. The wings and rider are magnatised and I will have to magnitise the reigns (where they attatch to the dragons head).

For rust, you need to kill some of the shininess. You can make a pretty effective rust using only brown, red, and orange. No need for metallics at all really.
