WIP Dark Elf -Updated, Complete

Just a few WIP shots of a dark elf. Comments and suggestions welcome.

As for what\'s left, I\'m not completely happy with the halberd yet, the blade is still wrong and I\'m not certain if I like my attempt to paint a woodgrain replacement.

Also, the cloak seems a little bare, so I\'m considering some sort of design, or edging, or some such, but I\'ve got no inspirations just yet.

I like the purple cloak. I think you should paint the wood grain on the shaft, or just add some highlights. Maybe you could add some more white to the halberg blade as well to improve it. Looks good.

I thought you were asking for suggestions on how to WHIP a Dark Elf. My bad.



Can\'t really give you much in the way of advice, seeing as how you\'re much better then me, but the blade definatly needs something. The rest is very good though.

My only suggestion would be to tone down the gold and black highlights.

Its looking pretty good. I would agree about toing down the Black and gold Highlights. The cloak looks okay, you might want to tone those highlights down as well.

I\'d say he was finished mate! Looks perfectly good as is. Move onto the next model.



If you really want to add a design to the cloak, that might look good... but I can\'t suggest a specific design as I\'m crap at coming up with those kind of details. As I say... be happy with this fella and start your next figure!

Agreed - that\'s what I first thought too. If you\'ve still got an army of the creatures to do, then move one. If it\'s a once-off work, then move on. I wouldn\'t rework an already decent miniature into perfection. More minis means more practise.

Some freehand on the cloak in the form of a border might be a nice touch, but I reckon it\'s got too many folds to do any serious amount of \'embroidery\' on it. Perhaps a pair of wavy lines criss-crossing each in an extended figure-eight?

All in all, he\'s a splendid chap already, MrKlipp.

It\'s a case of \"I found the model in the back of a drawer and it looked like it wanted to be painted\". He looked like he would make a good highborn with halberd, since I\'ve got no dark elves for him to lead, I suppose he will have to seek his fortune in the magic land of ebay.

So far, I\'ve reworked the blending on the black and gold to give a more natural less harsh look, redone the halberd blade and attempted a different form of freehand woodgrain, and created a border on the cloak with sigils.

I\'ll update with pics later today.

Stunning work, MrKlipp.

However, I don\'t like his halberd anymore. The plain grey metal was much nicer than the blue. You\'ve worked up a nice texture on the haft, but it might have too much contrast now. Perhaps a very thin glaze of a mid-brown to tone down the strong contrasts? Everything else is lovely.

I never liked it, in the end, it had to go.

Here we go, I think I\'ve done what I wanted to do with the model, so it\'s time to stop. I\'m happy with the overall look, and I think he stands apart well as a Highborn.
