I'm currently painting a Dark Elf army, and i need help with a few bits i can't decide which color to paint....

Skin, will all be that light.
Hair will be orange, kinda going for ginger kids look.
Armor of my army will be dark green going into lighter shade of green, with blue tieing everything together.

what color to use for his tabard?

I'm tempted to go for a dark blue turning green with highlight, since my armor will be greenish. Or maybe just the opposite of the cape (but not a big fan of that idea)... anyone got suggestion?

very nice blending, colours not my cup of tea but well done. Flesh on the first figure could do with some contast looks very flat.
As for your question I would go for either the same as armour or cloak s you have alot of vivid colours already and another would be to much IMO
Cheers James

Which color you dont like?

Its actually painted Bleached bones, with a shadow of Space Wolf Grey, and a highlight of Skull white. So yeah, it does look very light. That's kind of the color i was going for... was hoping for a bit more blue shadow, but i can't seem to be able to get a really deep shadow.

Try using a very thin purple or dark blue would take a few passes to get what you want but should give good shadow, do not over load your brush the first pass will seem like you are putting nothing on but keep going.

in the end, i went with same color as my army's armor. I'm very happy with the cloak and the boots, i think i really did the highlight on those two well. You can also see a bit better what i'm trying to achieve with the skin. Alot more blue with this one, since i started with Space Wolf Gray to basecoat, and layered from there.

With the Pegasus and the assassin now finished, Sorceress was next in line... A very challenging mini (at least compared to what i was expecting). Alot of details that require different approach, and well, result is still unknown.

Still finding the flesh flat may look nice close up but once you get it at arms length it looks white and at first I thought you were leaving the fleesh till last, Of course the photo may have weakend the contrast but I have to say what I see sorry to be harsh but you have so much skill shown on the cloth flesh lets you down.

don't feel sorry, i understand what you're saying. I had the exact same problem with my Ogre army... skin was too uniform...

well, i followed your advice. I painted my sorceress Space Wolf Gray, like the previous 2, but gave it a good Asurman Blue wash. After that, repainted my Space Wolf Gray.

From this, i'll use the same palette i previously used...

Update!

Pegasus' base is done. I think its almost too simple, but the final result is great, thanks to very detailed bases.

Started working on my Hag and Dreadlord. Didn't have much time, so i just finished the cape. I think they look really good (especially the dreadlord). I also decided to go for metallic metal on my dreadlord, so all the green that is painted is the only green there'll be on that mini. There's still a touch of blue to be expected, most likely on the cloth under the chainmail on the shoulders.

Undecided about the color on the inside of the cloak... anyone got ideas?

I paint my thumb.
I like the color on these cloaks, but the top highlight seems a bit stark, maybe needs more midtones.

Pretty nice base on Morathi

the latest flesh is very good, no problem with contrast there:victory:
Glad you like it. I think i won't have too much problem replicating that recipe on the rest of my army. I have to admit, that its alot more like what i wanted when i started.

I think i painted the midtone a bit too dark. From up close, you can really see the different color used, but from a distance, all you see is the final color...

I got both my Hag and my Dreadlord pretty advanced. Used alot of metal on the dreadlord, so picture don't really show the final result... its a blueish metalic, with highlight. Gold is also seeing alot of highlight that are hard to catch in picture.... anyway, here's roughly what it looks like...

Hag.
Still the interior of the cloak left to do, and the blood in the cup... no clue what color to paint the interior, i think i might go red, and try at some freehand...

Dreadlord
Same problem with the interior of the cloak. Dragon is most likely gonna be red, and the clothe on his shoulder will be a dark blue.

I paint my thumb.
I like the skin on the hag, but the transition looks a bit too stark, especially inside the elbow, maybe glazing with a more neutral tone would bring it together.
Metallics are basic, but look nice, good coverage, some extra shading could help.

Earthy orangey browns for the inside of the cloak would complement the blue well imo
