Welcome back, to this hobby... Be careful it can be highly addictive especially when you improve and realize it!
For your mini, first advice... thin your paint, don't use it straight from the pot, add water.... Now one of the problem is the mini itself... it doesn't look well defined. I advice you to try on a recent mini, the industry made a huge step forward in terms of quality and sculpting definition.
Then it seems that you used washes on the cloak, try to use thin layers, feathering technique, or blending technique. You will find lots of tutorial on the painting section of the forum.
But still after 7 years the mini still looks good, now it is time for a new challenge, I advice you to take a new mini and give you a challenge, using a certain technique, certain colors etc... continue it in the Work In Progress section and take pictures for each steps asking the community some advice... It is a wonderful tool, you will see!
