hey guys,

Well I am pretty happy with the results. please let me know what you think of the finished product. again, thanks for all the suggestions etc, I think it took the mini in a great direction. The base was created using all the same colors used in the mini in different combos and a much more subdued effect. I tried to keep the verticle theme that the model has through the base as well, a tall pillar accenting the verticle nature of the minis stance. The crystals recall the color of the face and are oriented in upward facing angles like the mini itself. other than that it was just a blast to paint and more work than i thought it would be when i started!anyway here they are!

@junior elf
I shaded the wraithbone quite a bit more but it seems to be getting washed out in the photo. maybe ill go a bit darker though Im a little hasitant to.

Cheers

I\'m gonna say this outta love here....

I think you got an 8.5-9/10 model on a 6/10 base.

I don\'t like the OSL on the crystals. It\'s way past my skill level but it looks like it ends way too abruptly and doesn\'t convince me. If that thing was mounted on a different base I think you\'d really get a strong reaction from the voters (if you care about that sorta stuff anyway).

No remember, that\'s outta love! This entire project is way past anything I could achieve, and the blening on the model is SUPERB! A truly magnificent model, but I really, really feel the base is letting the model down. I\'d just go with a simpler and neutal base. Let the model speak for itself dawg!

hmmm...
I actually like the base. (maybe cause it was just a crap load of work and I see it differently. thats whats good about getting feedback, sometimes I may not see what others do. The abrupt end comes from the fact that there is an abrupt corner on both sides where light could not travel past andreflect on the surface, but again, I built it so i know that it\'s there but maybe it doesnt come across well in a photograph. I appreciate the input but am not really sure what to do. Anyone else agree with scott or like it? It would be rough to remove it from the base because of the amount of time spent on it, but if it is generally considered poor, I may look at doing that

thanks for the input
cheers

I think the model and base look great. Albeit, the base COULD be better. however i would personally give this a 9.

Job well done. Very nice.

Gary.

I paint my thumb.
Good job!
I think you did the NMM just right on the staff, and I already commented the purple and green. The marble look on the staff is a nice effect also.
Two things that bother me; The white thing on the head, looks odd. I don\'t think purple works for shading white, not this saturated anyway. And it\'s true the OSL on the base is too even, I think it needs to be lighter/sronger near the crystal and darker and more transparent near the edge.
Mind you, I never did OSL so you might wanna check on that.

Thanks guys.
Im glad it goes over well. Im gonna make a smaller base for it and see how that turns out between the 2. I personally dig the tall one, so even if i do end up switching, i can always go back if I like..so making a new base is only an afternoons worth of work, so ill do it just for the hell of it. thankfully i have the day off! I know at some point, i should keep what I am happy with, but i am going to enter this in a local competition i think. After i get more feedback if it needs to change ill change it.. otherwise ill keep it the way it is.

I know i say it every time, but thanks for all the input. you all rule and i knew it would be a good idea to post here.

cheers

Just a reminder that I love the model, it\'s incredible. I hope it didn\'t sound like I was hacking on you!

I think you\'ll prefer a smaller base with less jazz on it to bring focus to the mini you painted so well.

Again to sum up, you\'re great. Just so there\'s no hard feelings.

Oh no way man!

I appreciate input, the only hard part is realizing something is wrong and spending the time to fix it. you guys were right about the OSL, I kept looking at it and it looked flat to me after it was brought to my attention. so, while the other base I am making was drying (glue and Gesso) I took him off his mount, put him back on the ol paint pot and reworked the OSL. there was no gradient there, it was just flat green.. so i dulled the edges down and intensified the middle and corners of nearby rock. I think it has made a huge difference. I included some other angles of the base to show that the crystals are in thier own little alcove kinda structure so there are stark edges as to how far the light can go.. so i just decreased the spread and intensified the center in order not to have as much problem with the walls. While I was at it, i added more shading to the wraith bones on the chest as the present shading is getting washed out in the photo. so i added a bit more.

@Green One
the white is actually more of a light purple shaded with purple.. the colors are not coming through perfectly in the photo.

anyway here are the pics
Eldar_Base_1.jpg

Eldar_Base_2.jpg

Eldar_Base_3.jpg

shows the cave kinda where the crystals are. anyway let me know if that helps.BTW the moss stuff is being shaded and highlighted as we speak, so ignore that for now

Thanks
Tim

Yeah That\'s an improvement. Much better, but I still think I\'d like this guy on a more simple and neautral base. I think the green is competitve vs. the model myself. But the OSL is much improved.

An just for comparison. Here he is on a more subdued base

Eldar_Base_4.jpg

compared to the original
Eldar_Base_1.jpg

I think he needs to move slightly to his left on this base. but there he is.

I like him on both but the original has the story/theme i was goin for

Your call (obviously) but I really prefer him on the more subdued base. It accomplishes all I hoped it would by drawinf focus back to the fig itself.

damit I like both...
I see your point about simple, but I also like the composition of the tll base a lot!

I am thinking bout posting both in one pic, like a \"game\" base and a \"display\" base...

bah i just dont know LOL.

I think they both look quite amazing! If i only i had the patience to paint a model that long! LOL i tend to get bored and move on around 2 days worth of work.

Anyways, quite amazing!

Gary.

PS: i like both bases

Thanks again all, I posted it up over in the submissions forum.

I left the \'rate my image\' thing blank on the \"add image\" page and i think it defaulted to a six. DOH! Oh well, live and learn.

Anyway thanks for all the help guys I\'ll be starting the next project soon.

Really amazing job on the final product. Personally I also like the more subdued base better. But hey if you like both, that only gives you an excuse to paint up another one for the other base. :p
