Hello, my first post and topic here at CMON so please be kind :p

I have been painting since one year back quite casually, not counting when i painted back in my youth.
There are lots of excellent minis here on the forums and most of the critique i see is almost always very precise and helpful.
I want to improve my skills and make awesome miniatures me too!

This is my current project while I am quite happy with the skin tone of this I am open to suggestion on how to improve it.
But what i really need help with is
1. How I can improve the goldy parts especially the bracer and the chaos symbol in it.
2. The hand is supposed to be skin tone but towards the fingertips it should go black and bone like (his horns and spikes will be black) how do i make a supersmooth transition from skin to black? I have tried to apply one wash with chaos black mixed with plenty of water but I dont think it looks any good.

Any comment would be appreciated.

One thing you could do with the chaos star on the bracelet is to fill it out to make sort a glowing effect. I use very thin paint in many layers applied with a small detail brush in the recesses. This could also make for a cool focus point and some new and offsetting colours to the mini such as a bright red or glowing green perhaps?

Och välkommen hit :)

@ Lateyourbanana: Thanks for the tip I didnt event think of using another colour rather then all blue on the details but now I think im gonna try with a glowing red thing. Tackar!

@marjedi: Now you dane be kind, I was forced to listen to a Danish buisiness developer for 30 minutes yesterday and he did not want to speak English. I was so tired afterwards for concentrating way too hard for understanding! :snicker:

No prob! Are you dedicating the guy to any specific god or just keeping him Undivided?

I use a bright yellow-green for these kinda things on my Khornies, makes for a good contrast against the dark red.

I used a lot of blue for the markings and the little cloth that can be seen to make him feel a little Tzeentch: ish.

To get the metal to look more Tzeentch you could use Glazes of diffrent appropriate warm and cold colours to get some extra life into the metalics.

Thanks for the compliments.
The wings i think will be dark purple on outside and even darker purple/black on the inside.
I can get a picture up when im back home.

Back at the brush

Ok finally I got myself to paint again and actually stated were i left off.

I spent a couple of hours picking and poking at the skin to make it look better and also tried to add a glow effect to the eyes.
Any suggestions on how to make it pop a bit more, I think it looks a little dull.

I know less than crap about glow effect, but in my opinion the blue above the eyebrow and in the nose/lip area suggests more of a face paint effect than glow. I think if it was focused to the eyes, below the eyebrow and away from the nose area it would pop more. A case of less effect is more.

But as I say, take it with a grain of salt as I have not done glow effect (at least successfully).

Trying to get something nice on the wings.

I read about something called wet blending and decided to have a go at it.
Im not very satisfied with what i could produce with it but it looks rather ok.
I got some ugly reflections from the light when taking the picture but I guess you get what im aiming at.

It feels like wet blending is kinda hard and maybe layering is better for me.

well much stuff is hard until you learn it properly, right? :) there is only one way to get better; practise! wetblending has some huge benefits as you can save a lot of time and get smooth blendings, although for me its a bit to uncontrolled but its a matter of taste.

Hej SkelettetS!

If you think your wet blending is uncontrolled you sure are good at hiding it.
To be honest it was from your WIP thread I got the inspiration to try it out.

You are correct, practice, practice... and then some more practice :)

Im not a fan of wet blending, I much prefer two brush blending & layering. Its all down to preference.

Hey Nsolver, nice you got some inspiration :) i only used wetblending as a first step, then i gradually build up transitions using glazes and lots of it. but yeah practisepractise!

One thing i noticed was that when going from purple to black the colors not only did mix on the wing it also mixed in the brush.
So when drawing the brush from purple to black you get one smooth transition.
Next time you lift the brush from the black and place it in the purple to go down again you have a completely new darker purple and it was not very smooth transition. (actually butt ugly).
Cleaning the brush with every storke made the transition better but it was very easy to overload the water and paint started to run everywhere!
I think going for smaller areas to blend and not make the whole transition in one stroke will be a better way.

Now compleweted the wet blending for both wings, still have some tidying up from all areas i spilled over on.
I removed some of the glow from the eyes, especially the glow in the forehead.
