although well done, the weathering looks way too much, as has been said before, it looks moor neglected then well used.

i\'d have limited the weathering to some chips around the parts that see the most use and movement (ie. the magazine, scope mount)

i do think an SM scout would clean his rifle every day (even when behind enemy lines) thus preventing any rust.

cheers mourner, its the first time i\'ve used the technique with the salt and at the first sitting i did go way over the top, the second batch of photo\'s dont do the rifle justice they are very close up shots and make the weathering look worse than it is in true life. as i mentioned before i wanted to go for the sensation that the scout had spent not just weeks in a really harsh desert environment with no support but months, i\'ve done a little research into snipers etc and found that they will intentionallly \"rough up\"their equipment to give it a more organic look, i was particularly amused by footage of snipers breaking in their gilly suits, rolling around like a dog with a bad case of fleaslol.anyway enough excuses here are a few more picts of the equipment so far

chapter icons

its about time i chose a chapter for this guy i\'ve narrowed my choices down to the following if any one wants to vote for their favorite or make their own suggestion feel free....
IRON SNAKES
WHITE SCARS
FLESH TEARERS
STORM LORDS
DARK HUNTERS
EXORCISTS
.
.
.

space wolves

i can then get on with doing some icons for the bike and is shoulder pads.
im sort of leaning towards iron snakes myself????????????

i wouldnt say flesh teaeres, as supportless undercover foarys aint their thing. the fluff descirbes them as being, well, mental

My vote would be for White Scars, fluff wise a biker fits in so well ! The down side is that white is a bit of a pain to paint lol

the bike has been base coated then dry brushed with boltgun metal and the same with the bolter shield... any advice with regards to the engine block and exhaust pipes would be appreciated i dont know if i should pain tover those or not i like the look of the metal but would that take away from the como image i have tried to portray???

hey freak how are you was begining to think you had fallen out with me!. thats the idea i was gonna paint the tank, the front shield, the rear fairing and a couple of the side panels i think the engine and exhausts i should leave as is, of course with the addition of the obligatory soot on the tail pipeslol, i\'ve also been raiding the waste bag on my bench grinder vacuum cleaner for the milliput dust its like fine talc i think if i use the hair spray idea and blow the dust over the engine and other componants it shoul give a really dusty sense of realism. the next two or three days should see it finished, if the ball n chain will give me the timelol. i\'ve decided on IRON SNAKES because i like the iconography i had startred on a lovely six legged lizard which was going to sit on a rock looking at the scout however my daughter trod on it so thats going to have to be re done. time 4 beer bye all:drunk:

Damn. Here I go being away for a few days and I find you have been working like never before! Makes me feel all bad for not working as well! lol
Well, I think the weathering it perfect now and whether it\'s marks from the old weathering or new patterns I love the camo feel they have, I\'m hoping you will keep at least part of it if you plan on coloring the rifle and pack more chapter-wise.
cheers!

progress report, the deal so far

the bike has caused me no end of problems from the wrong tone of camo(having to be stripped and re done) to having to partially strip the parts from the bike i.e skid plate, ignition leads, filler cap. im getting there. the skin tone of the marine himself im not so sure about so if anyone has any pointers please feel free as my technique is mainly dry brushing different shades. cheers:) the dash display turned out really well

Ow! It seems I have missed a post or two. :-D
Great progress mate, I admire your guts to strip the rifle and have another go. The painting\'s coming along well, love the camo scheme.
For the metal, I\'d subtly go to work with some very thinned blueish washes to deepen the metal, work with some thinned purple wash toughups on the engine parts that get very hot, like exhaust pipes and such to convey heat discoloration. When that\'s done I\'d try with some thinned oil paint washes to outline the detailing and finally some black misted on the exhaust tips for soot. (don\'t forget to fixate before and after the oil paints with some satin varnish).

tribal tattoos

ive added a couple of tatts i think they turned out well considering i had to get the ball n chain to photo the dragon on my back in several different shots so i could copy it onto the model
