WIP Space Marine Salamanders Honor Guard

For the past 2 months, I suddenly had this idea/plan in my mind that I wanted to make a Salamanders Honor Guard. From that day on I searched for info and also inspiration. Sadly I found only Ultramarine Honor Guard and Salamander Command squad. From Forgeworld side, only Firedrake...... I have no choice but to try design my own version. Few things that I note down was:

1) Salamander skin
2) Salamander Chapter Banner, NOT company banner (in SM codex only have 2nd company)
3) All power weapon
4) Cloak or robe
5) Artificer armour

To begin my project, I have to get my (1) done. Info that I've found online was ppl painstakingly sculpt the scales 1 by 1!!!! I've consulted my friend, Revliss (His work feature on Beast of War) and he said its very tedious work. For me, I want to cut down time and can make it many many times. So my plan was to design a big piece and mold it any time I want. Here's the result:

After its done, I went to mold the skin. Shaped and cut the way I wanted it. Now for the models, I dug thru my bitz box and found as many power weapon as possible...few more I asked from my friends. For relic blade, its a two handed axe or sword as according to SM codex. Unfortunately I don't have a sword and my friend gave me the Blood Angel Glaive Axe. I don't want it coz it has the chalice but I have no other choice in hand.

Now here's my result after putting on everything.

Now on to get it painted. To get my (5) Artificer armor done was not easy. I kept refer to GW version honor guard. The only thing I could pulled out from my head was GOLD everywhere. And for the salamander scales, I thought of going for red scales as follow GW Vulkan He'stan but instead I went for Shadow Grey.

As for the right shoulder pad icon, I really had no idea what to put on. I refer back to GW honor guard.... it shows nothing but normal skull and name plaque. I searched everywhere and finally I noticed this Firedrake pic from Forgeworld. The icon was skull with flame on forehead.

To get it easily done, I use the decal and then painted a flame. Viola!!

I was in the process of making Salamanders untill I got distracted by something shiny .
Some of the dark elves have very nice scaled cloaks .
Very nice models maybe could have more power hammers ?????? as per vulkans weapon.

Thanks guy for the compliment. The only thing I'm not really satisfied with the scales for shoulder pad and loincloth for being a little bit big. Forgeworld version is small little scales. Or maybe combination of big and small. So I decided to sculpt a few more new scales so that it can mold for 10 marines in one go.

I had the same idea about using Dark Elves Corsair Scale cloaks but the size not big enough. Not enough to cover shoulder pad and loincloth.... And the bitz from Ebay is not cheap. For the weapons, my initial idea was halberd from Grey Knight coz I wanted it to be near to GW Vulkan He'stan. 2nd idea was hammer but all bitz selling on Ebay is Thunderhammer..... duhh... the only power hammer is from SM Vanguard.

Now for the final one.... the standard bearer. This was my hardest part coz there are none Chapter Banner picture can be found. SM codex only have 2nd company banner. I had no other choice but to modify a bit. Here it goes.....

Now to get this painted onto the model's banner. I went for background 1st....

After that I went for the hammer. Slowly painted the shape, then outlining, then shade and highlight.

Now for the flame. I done outlined and slowly filled up the yellow. And then highlight.

I don't really like GW version, so I went on painting orange to the lava instead of just red (as same as background color).

Thanks man.... For these passed few days, I've being trying to find more inspiration and ideas to make something new again once I finished this project. But no results :( Then my friends came to hse and saw this project, they asked me to consult 'Oracle of Fluff' for ideas :D and they gave me few ideas. If Chapter Master Tu'shan is master of crafting spear, hammer and swords, making a phalanx armed with spear and shield would be cool. To me, its 300!!! >D
