WIP: Stormblade with interior

The casting of the body has actually not occurred to me, a semi-clear resin body would have been perfect for this project. Sadly, the work put down on the existing barrel is looking at me with huge puppy eyes, begging me to keep it as is. But I do think I should start looking into resin casting for future projects, might save me some time and open up new possibilities at the same time.

If I understand you correctlythen yes, I am currently experimenting with electrical tubing, did not know about the aquarium detail though, yet another thing I believe I should look up.
Right now the barrel is getting a rebuild using transparent electrical tubing, that part is going a bit slow since I already have an existing barrel and that makes it a lower priority compared to the rest of the tank.

that is an option, just making the tips show like on the Dark Angel robes. Not sure how I feel about them elfy shoes though, doesn\'t sound very mechanicum to me. lol

very nice, the mechanicum priest is looking stellar. I like the little mechadendrite turning his pages for him! I know someone had mentioned necron feet for the guy. Maybe just replacing one of his feet with something robotic would give him that funky asymmetrical look all the martian priesthood seems to have.

The heat here in Sweden is totally killing me and on top of that the sun use the better part of the morning and mid-day to warm my hobby room. But I am trying to bring something worth updating for to you guys.

And here\'s something, what do you think of this? Is it overdone or should i perhaps add something more?
It is one of the reactor cores in case you had forgotten.

Epic poop! I just realized that the kind of magnets I am using stops being magnetic when heated. So, I will have to find another way to make quick couplings for my generators and cannon...

I think I have found a way, instead of using the magnets as the couplings I\'ll just use metal plates. If I place the reactor \"foot\" in a socket and make sure the couplings are tighter than the plastic I should be able to use a magnet that isn\'t in the circuit just to keep the model in place.

Ok, sorry for not updating more frequently, but once again the weather tried to kill me and it wasn\'t going easy on me either.
But I haven\'t stopped working! I have now realized that I will need to buy one of those adjustable resistors and cram it into the tank somewhere, those lights came out awfully bright!

Today I\'ve spent the best part of the day( the cool one that is, it was actually RAINING today, five minutes or so but still! I came up with a new solution to my magnet problem and put a few pieces together for show, the real detail will come later, this time it was just a check to see if I had been doing what I should or if I screwed it all up.
It is glowing now so if that isn\'t the early stages of a nuclear meltdown or something I think I\'m on the right track here.

The camera is a wee bit light sensitive so it is hard to take a good and true to life picture, the closest I got was this:

But that is still not good, the light is somewhere between those two pics above, hence the need for the \"dimmer\".
I think I\'ll go check out the electronics store tomorrow and see if I can come up with something good.

Question: Should I use two separate dimmers, one for the reactors and one for the coils or should i use one for the whole thing to get a more uniform appearance?

I havee you two comments regarding your latset update, maybe you allready thought of this:

1) make sure the endproduct is \"lightproof\", i.e. no light leaks out when closed. this would ruin the realism.... ok, it\'s a sci-fi mini, but still.

2) at the moment, the coils look fastened with screws, i\'d suggest replacing these with nuts and bolts, for a more industrial look.

It will definitely be \"lightproof\", at least as much as possible with it still being disassembable.

What looks as screws at those pics are actually the soldered magnetic couplings, those will be hid under bolted plating and more technical accessories for the tech priest to tamper with.

Spent the whole of today with walking around in boiling stores looking for an adjustable resistor and for some reason they\'re bloody hard to get a hold of. Found one that was a \"do-it-yourself\"-kit that was way too large and was priced about €12 more than I had expected it to be so I let it stay on it\'s shelf.

Anyone having a couple of adjustable resistors lying around that they wanna trade for some bitz or whatnots?

(after some research I have found out that they are named Potentiometers.)

have you looked at your local electrician\'s shop/ electrical hardware store?

why would you want an adjustable resistor, can\'t you use one that\'s strong enough but not adjustable?

The real reason behind me wanting it to be adjustable is quite simple, it\'s cool.

We have no \"real\" electronics shop around these parts sadly, only hobby stores with various bits and pieces and the staff being uniformed pre-university kids who have memorized the shopping catalog at maximum....

But!

I have spent this day this far with talking to people with more electronics skills than me and tossing e-mail to various stores around and have learned that using a \"normal\" dimmer isn\'t enough since a LED-diode doesn\'t work the same way as a lamp does(I already knew it didn\'t work the same way but now I have some practical knowledge about how and why). So, what I need to have the effect I want, is to \"pretend\" to dim it by making it flicker at high frequencies and thus making it look dimmed. Sounds really strange but it actually works and looks great when done proper.

Oh, and apparently I have to toss €10 and above for such a contraption. Ah, well. no reason to be cheap about it at this stage, after all, I do NOT want to count how much I have actually put into this model to begin with so another €10 or so isn\'t much in the long run.

OK! Been to the store again, bought what I needed and here we have it:

I think I\'ll use a homemade board instead of the circuit board I got in the package, that way i can make a cool panel for the servitor to fiddle with in the front compartment later on.
