Well...
let's see if I'm able to make the update to this topic now.
A few hours ago I was going to make it...
but my laptop got a double red screen and I wasn't able to make anything else.
Took it to the store and they told me that it would take a few weeks to fix the problem and that the repair could go from 20€ to 300€ (yes, 300 not 30 :weep:)
Today I downloaded all the pictures from my mobile to my laptop...
and deleted them from the phone...
luckily I already had uploaded the images to photobucket...
or there would be no updates.


Well, before getting to the hurricane bolters...
I needed to get the wings back in one piece and put the engines in place to see how much space I would have left to build the hurricane bolters.
I made a 7mm mending piece so that the bigger engines could fit in the wings.

Then I needed to make a reinforcement for the wings so that they would not snap.
But I still wanted to get the "see through" effect of that grid.
Here are the pieces I made.

How to start?
Two pens... and lots of styrene.

I assembled the casing...
but forgot to take pictures.

and now starts the fun part!
I needed to make the cuts for the grip of the gun.
I leveled the blade for the specific measure I wanted for the grips...
and started cutting.

Now the pieces for both sides (the ones with a black line will be the ones used in the side with the bolter and the bolter handle)

All putted together...
there was time to fill the first cuts I made.
I had to use cardboard because the cuts had less then .5mm... and the styrene strips wouldn't fit inside.

Sagh,dude,what you are doing is amazing,I didn't realise that they were actually regular bolters,in the original shot you put up earlier they looked the size of the heavy bolters off of the Landspeeder.You've officially blown my mind.

One more thing,where did you get that cool saw thing you used for doing the grips? I want one! Think its time to look at Hobby Tools Australia again and hope to god they've got one.

Lolol... Have that same problem back home :D

Again, what you are doing is really a labour of love. I can imagine my self making the bolters one by one, I'm to lazy. Congrats!!

I used a PROXXON NO 28 070 with a 50mm diameter blade from the MINICRAFT machine (the other smaller machine that I used).
The PROXXON NO 28 070 is a very versatile machine...
you can adjust the height of the blade, you can give angle to the blade you can also adjust the cutting speed...
it's really great!

The other one, the MINICRAFT...it's an old machine, bought in the 90's...
I couldn't find it in the internet...
not sure if it's still made.
I really love that machine...
I must have cut km's/miles of plastic on it!

Minicraft is still in business: http://www.minicrafttools.com/

Not sure which tool you were using. The table saw on the minicraft site is listed as a Proxxon.

Thanks Sagh,I've been keeping an eye out for something like it for awhile and then after I read your post (and a quick net search) I realised that my favourite tool place has them - http://www.hobbytools.com.au/index.htm -I'd never thought to look for one on there before this, looks like I've got a few more purchases to make before I start the T'Hawks and Stormbird.

I added the link because they've got this some really unique and useful products that I've not seen anywhere else,and yes they ship internationally and the prices are very good considering this sort of thing is a very niche market here in Oz.

One last thing: Sleep deprivation is not fun,it took me no less than 8 attempts to get this to make any form of sense.

Started working on the tail...
but quickly realized that I needed to close the hull so that I can make pieces that will fit nicely.
But for that...
some painting needed to be done.
By your standarts...
I suck in painting...
but I'm very happy with the results!

Well... because I trully suck in painting... but the ship is getting better than I expected.

Speaking of Meph...
I came up with a name for my ship!
Mephisto
This is the name of a music of one of my favorite bands and this way I'm also honoring the the father (Mephisto) of the concept in which my ship is based upon.

Here is part of the wikipedia article saying who is the creature Mephisto:

no computer = less updates
but the work didn't stopped!
Here is a picture of how it looks now.
Not 100% happy with the tail...
but I think I'll let it stay like that.

I don't get much chance to look around these forums but your title caught my eye. Beautiful work on this model thus far. I particularly like the scratch engine cowl and exhaust and the scratch bolters are excellent. I shall have to be making my bolters for the T'hawk from scratch as well as the bitz bolters look ridiculously small. I'll be referring to your work when I do.

if you want to change it for the twin tail might i suggest you work off the top of the engines i would re use the tail plain you already have mak a twin then make up two tail struts to support em i would also give the control surfaces that bent down look as at the front.

In a former aircraft designer's opinion, you've got enough (well, at least in the sci-fi world) control area on the canted wings and canard that you probably don't really need the vertical tail at all.

But it would look silly without something there. Maybe two small verticals, off of each engine. Or, you could keep the single vertical, and then make some sort of sensor pod up there. Maybe a communications array.

Okay, I need more coffee - I was doing just fine with your post, Pegazus, until that last part with the communication array on the tail. I just had a vision of an AWAC that flew up its butt. Yeah, yeah, going to go get more caffeine now. :yawn:
