My second group of figures. Normally, I\'d say this is done...but I know it\'s missing lots of stuff. I just don\'t know what...

The highlight and shading of the purple give this min alot more depth. I would start with a mix of purple and black as a wash then do a purple and white mix as highlight. As you get mor confident do more highights. Most table quality minis only have one or two highlights and 1 shade but the more the better. This particular one probably has 10 or more highlights and 3 or more shade.

Your metals could do with a wash as well. i use chestnut wash for gold and a black and blue wash for metals. i will also spot chest nut on to make the steel of iron look more aged. A flesh wash on the horns will help stand the detail out.

Also you have mould lines on the LHS weapon.

Sorry if this seems like Im picking on you. YOur model is definitely table top quality. Its up to you how much better you want it to be.

Cheers.

WOW an Ogrebane sighting, almost as rare as Bigfoot.

Gussy what OB has said is right, while your stuff is clean and neatly painted it\'s lacking the depth that shadow and highlights give a figure.

Ditto on comments so far :) Very neatly painted, and if you can add shading and highlights, these guys will really pop. Lovely work so far :D

since others have mentined things about the mini, i will touch on the bases.

if that is lava flow, then something seems a little off. that much yellow seems to mean the lava is really hot. if it is flowing around existing rocks that have cooled it makes sense the rocks have already been black.

http://www.coolminiornot.com/168241

less yellow in this one makes it seem like a slower and cooler flow.

the amount of yellow making it look hotter seems there should be some red/orange in the rocks where they have not fully cooled in such a hot and quick flow.

adding heat with orange to your rocks may not make for very good places for the marine to stand.

you may want to reduce the heat and a bit of the yellow with a bit more red to make it look as though its a bit more stable and safer \"ground\" to stand on.

i was going to include a picture of my spore mine on lava base, but can\'t find the previous picture i took of it, and cant find the silly thing itself...

well it isnt that bad, but those were jsut some ideas to touch up the base a bit if you feel it really needs more work. those would be the areas i would touch up.

I think that OB hit it on the head with the ink wash. The models look well painted but flat, a wash and a bit more highlighting will take these to the next level. That and the model with the flamer/bolter could use a more pronounsed hightlight on the eye. That and it doesn\'t look like you drilled out the bolter (Gasp the Horror :D:D:D ) Other then that looking good. Keep it up!

Thanks guys!

When I try to shade, what happens is that I can easily see the boundaries between shades.

I was thinking about mixing the purple with very little black or darker purple then use this on the darker areas. For the highlight, use mixed in a little of the original purple (my mix is darker). After doing this, do a blue wash? Will this work? Sorry, not every good with highlights and shading. It\'ll be great if you can help with more detail steps.

I\'ll also work on the eyes. I haven\'t gotten to all the details yet but will drill all the guns later. As for the base, I\'ll do some red ink wash. This should reduce the yellow.

Again, thanks!
