Hi all! I started to paint this guy today for a local painting competition at the end of April. What do you think of him so far?

Ah yesh I forgot that only the MODs and popular members get the most replies on these boards lol

I\'ll add an extra highlight to two to the back of the boots to even them out, I think they missed the final stage of the painting :bouncy:

I like the front of the boots, too, also your red tones.

The orange highlighting on the lower left of the jacket (your other left!) does look a teensy rough, though.

What\'s that you\'re using for a base?

ah thanks you made me check that and it is a bit too rough, I\'ll have to glaze that till its right again

He is standing on a bit of plastic metal which looks just like half of an armoured door

Sometimes threads get lost in the mix... I really dont think it has anything to do with who posted it really. A lot of the time people will only respond if they see something very wrong, or that they questions or something along those lines.

Anyways on to the mini. The reds are nice, although there is something bugging me about the lower front parts of the coat (and I can\'t put my finger on it, sorry). The boots look great. I don\'t know what to say about the face as theres a big shift from one picture to the other, but they both look pretty good. I\'m personally not too fond of the basing material being so much larger than the base, but I\'ll wait to see what you do with it before I judge it.

the top part of the coat looks good, but the bottom part dosn\'t seem right to me. The highest highlight is definetly to stark and I don\'t think it should be that light considering where it\'s placed.
Try highlighting your red with a peach color (like skin) in stead of yellow.
And I\'v been around CMON for quit some time and I think newcomers have always gotten as much attention as ancient. The good painters do get more comments, but that\'s because it\'s a lot easier to say \'wow awsome\' than to search for flaws and how to fix them.

Thanks for the comments, I won\'t change the lower half of his red tunic because I really like that part. Anyway onto the update, the cloak is a darker shade than the boots but that difference is lost slightly in the photos.

What do you think of him? More highlights on the cloak?

thanks

He looks awesome. I would leave the coat as is right now, it looks a little dark right now, but its also got a lot of black primer around it. Once you\'ve got a good deal of the rest painted you can see if the colour is what you wanted. NMM looks good too. Keep it up.

The front of his right boot is awesome.

Greg took the words right out of my mouth. I\'m going to keep looking back at this guy as I work on my highlighting.

Fantastic work.

Looking very cool! I like the reds and the face! Maybe some consistent photoshop white balancing might prevent the changes in colour from photo to photo? Just a thought!

you need more highlighting on the surfaces of the raised folds on his coat(rear) you have highlights on the raised folds(very top of the folds) but for some reason not the flat surfaces beside them

you may consider not doing it, but if you decide in the future to do a model with lighting from above, its a must :)

looking very nice

Your hilights are great, especially on the boots. I think there could be a bit more shading on the leather, but other than that the guy is looking pretty fantastic so far.

The NMM is pretty simple but effective on him too which is nice.

Nice piece of work. I probably couldn\'t do it quite as good at all but still; here\'s a comment.
I really like the colours and the shading which work well. However, right now it looks like the coat could use another highlight to make it fit in with the collar. But emo is probably right in his advice that you should wait until adjacent areas have been painted.

Keep up the good work.

I agree with the comments about the back of the coat -- a little more highlighting would be in order.

The highlights on the back don\'t seem to be worked up to the level of the ones on the front, which are quite something.
