So, after getting the armor done, I decided I still didn't like it and started over....again. I decided to ditch the nmm. I decided to try to do a worn steel look. I will will try to post some pictures tonight if I remember.

Armor almost done, still need to hit some of the details and do a little clean up hear and there.

Last night I started working on the cloth. Per ArchArad's suggestion, I wanted to use a warm color. I couldn't decide if I wanted to use a deep red or an orange color, so I just used both. I am pretty happy with the result.

Thanks again for looking, and let me know what you think. I am still trying to figure out if I want to go with a metal or make it bone on the spikes on his shoulder pads. I am also still debating on the color of all of the trinkets that hang off his belt.

The armour looks good as steel - good call. I'm glad my suggestion helped - I also like how the orange/red ties in with the brass elements in the armour. I'd lean towards bone on the shoulders, but that's just because I like that style. Either option would work on this guy. As for his trinkets - you can have fun with them and bring in different tones (i.e. lighter leathers and dark wood or even dyed leathers if you want).

He's looking really good WolpheBayte - well done! :D

Thank you for the comments. @Arch, I have been leaning towards bone too. I am hoping i get this done soon. I have so many I want to paint. The weather is also starting to get nice, which means I won't have nearly enough time to paint either.

Nice colour choices, I love that shade of blue and the cloth works really well both as a contrast to the skin and as a tie in to the brass/gold colours on the armour

Thanks everyone! You make it sounds like I intended to use those colors for those purposes.....which I did.....it was always my plan. Nobody can prove differently :)

Did a little more on the troll last night. Finished up enough I could attach his left hand. I also started to pick out and work on some of the detail work. Getting so close.

I am also starting to think of ideas for a base, I kind of want to make it look like a snowy mountain side, but I have never done snow before. I picked up some of the snow cover stuff from hobby lobby while I was there, but I am not sure how it will work on this scale. I really am not that good at building bases, which is one of the reasons why I have 3 95% completed projects...they are all waiting bases.

I hear you can use bicarbonate soda mixed with PVA for a snow effect but I've also read it can turn yellow over time, I've never tried it so that's about the limit of my knowledge on the subject

Hes really coming together now,I really do like the co!our choices:)

He's coming along really nicely! I would suggest glazing some bone/beige lightly over his fingernails. They disappear a bit at the moment which seems a pity.

There is some dust that I need to clean off of him on the back, and I have no idea what that black mark is on the cloth, because it is not on the mini.

For snow Mr Laszlo Adoba (fantastic diorama creator with a number of wonderful books) recommends mixing bicard with water and white glue to form a paste and then applying to a surface that has been treated and sealed with white glue beforehand (this forms a barrier that hopefully protects against contamination) he also recommends using a clean applicator tool and clean glue. I'm guessing again to safeguard against contamination. Hope that helps mate, maybe do a few practice bases first. These guys looks great and you wouldn't want to ruin them

*rapturous applause* He looks absolutely fabulous WolpheBayte! I hope that you are suitably proud of yourself.

Perhaps a bit of drybrushing or a few pigments could lift the base?

I put together some Black Knights and primed them last night. But, since I like to the primer a day or two before I start painting, I started working on this guy. It is another Reaper Bones mini, so there are some rough spots for in miniature. I know these are not the best quality mini's, but for the price you can't beat them when you just want to paint something real quick or try some new stuff on them.

He's looking good. i am learning you have to approach Bones with a different mind set. Approach it from a fun standpoint you will be fine. Try for a competition worthy mini and you'll go insane. :shout:

So have been playing with the Bugbear over the last week, but haven't posted anything. I worked on the skin some more pushing the highlights.

View attachment 48190

Looking at the skin tone last night, I think it is still a little too dark and I need to push the highlights a little more. Problem I keep on having is when I get the highlights the way I want them, I end up darkening them when I work on blending it all together with glazes. It is a juggle that I am still working on.

I spent most of the week working on the NMM for the scales. This was the result of my first pass.

I went through and pushed the contrast a little more and did the rest of the scales.

View attachment 48192

I decided I needed a little in the shadows so I worked again on more contrast. I also worked a little more on the skin when I was getting bored working on the NMM

I think I finally got the NMM on the scale to a place that I am happy with it. I have been out of town a couple of days for work, so I will end up looking at it again to see if I am still happy with it.
