Hi folks

I am seeing a lot of these bases be it round/square/oblong where can I get hold of these things for Diorama\'s etc . Preferably in the UK and Paypal would be of great benefit . Any idea\'s are welcome , thankyou .

Take care

hi again,I wood(hehe) try trophy supply shops maybe and craft shops should have them.If your handy then make your own with a piece of wood and router the edge, getting technical there maybe.Im a woodworker by trade so I have a plentiful supply of offcuts for bases if I ever want one.Hmm got me thinking know.Is there a demend for this $$$ or £££ for us.

Or you could just see a joiner with the specific sized base that you want and he could probably make you one on a wood turner or a router edge like klute_in_the_valute suggested. My grandad is a ex carpenter/ joiner and he made me a superb base for my entry into our schools painting competition. And now its photo graces the corridor wall having come first place. Before you ask he couldn\'t make you one. Nothing personal or anything. :D :D :D

I would definitely be interested in getting good bases from you! They are difficult to find and trophy shops are rather pricey. If you could undercut them, then I would definitely go for a few especially if you can custom build then to order.

@ Caelithar- I usually get ones from local cake suppliers and charity shops, wherever I can find them.

Kat

can\'t help abroad...

I know here in the states I can find them quite plentiful at some of the local craft stores (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc)

Usually in the same area that sells materials for making dolls.

I found a wide selection of all wood bases, in many sizes that would work perfectly for dioramas. Plus the average price I paid was about .50 cents a piece. lol

They are pretty expensive here, like $5-10.

The ones I am talking about are roughly 6X6 inches or so, made of probably pine, and are unfinished. They are routered out to have nice edges, and are relatively smooth, but they are unpainted/unstained.

Maybe I should start stocking up, and sending them to my overseas friends!!!
:D

Ill see about getting around to doing a few axamples and sticking up an article maybe.I think that custom sizes would be the way to go.Id be quite happy to send them out in exchange for high votes, only kidding:D

I never questioned the use of routers, I have a very nice Bosch myself which I sling underneath a Wolfe routing table. You just wont catch me in W.H. Smiths buying a copy of \'Routers Weekly\'.:D

Caelithar & Klute you could try The Model shop in Newcastle. (on Marlborough Cresent) I picked up a good supply there when I was up home in September.
Or for you and every one else looking for online shopping & supplies try Andrea Miniatures bases as supplied by Historex Agents.

Hope this helps.

Id probably always do my own.It would turn out cheaper buying one than getting a joiner/carpenter to make one anyway.
Dragonsreach--does the model shop sell minis?

Not as of the last time I was there. Which is a shame as they were the first specialised model shop in the UK, and where I used to get my \"Lead Fix\" with Hinchcliffe wargaming Napoleonic Figures. They also used to sell Historex 54mm Napoleonics as well.
Nowadays they seem to cater more for the railway enthusiast and Aero-Modellers.

Thanx ,Im looking for local sellers,I like to hold it in my hand!,theres a shop in the metro centre that has i kore but not much range.Thats where I got the biomech and soon to be posted beserker champ. They have some celtos too.

Its in the village that games workshop leads into. Its very small and theres usually a grumpy man behind the counter keeping an eye on the kids.As in every backstreet model shop.Btw for scenics I go to a shop on the Chester le street road ,off the motorway, past Clstreet, toward the Church mouse fun pub, used to be the Brass castle. They have loads of railway scenics(Jarvis).Worth a look if u dont have another source.:D

Try general craft shops as well - they get used as plaques as well as for bases.

Here\'s a link for

Hobbycraft

which has branches across the UK. You will need to vist as the site\'s not up to much as far as searching for products is concerned.

the range of hobby stuff they stock is enormous!

Maybe I should start stocking up, and sending them to my overseas friends!!!

So can people make these in different sizes/shapes? It would be great to have a selection of different sized bases for projects.

Round here you can pick up bases from trophy and engraving stores for hideous amounts, likely $50US for anything of any decent size.
Blow that!

I pick all mine up from a local farmer, native timber, routered down which I then sand up. Works great!

If you like I can see if I can pick some up for you people but it\'s a bit of a trip for me to do so, like 100kms round trip, plus I\'m in NZ which is generally referred to as \'the other side of the world\'.

Oh wow I used to live in Chester-Le-Street.
Anyhow Klute & Cealithar, Take a look at Ainsty\'s website for the Border Reiver show in September. It\'s at the Telewest arena In Newcastle. http://www.ainsty.co.uk I\'ll be heading up there once again. (unless it conflicts with Golden Deamon). Maybe I\'ll see you both there.
