Wooden display bases!

Hi all, well me and a mate were talkin on the weekend and he\'s a cabinet maker, so he gets ALOT of scrap wood (pine and oak mainly) and were thinking seeing as i can never find any cheap nice looking display bases might be a good idea to make em and slap em on ebay!
What do ppl think about em? worth doing for the painting community or not really worth the time and effort?
Btw, i know theres the plastic ones BUT i love the look of wood, just a different sort of feel imo.
So basically, would ppl buy them and any1 else on here make them? if so, hand over your details cause i want some :p

I got a base for my last little diorama for less than $1 at a local craft store.

Either they would have to be very cheap or very impressive to find a market. Maybe something like those tall rectangular ones stained dark that I\'ve seen people use would go well.

Same here. I don\'t know if it\'d be worth it to do just plain standard bases. If you do something like hakoMike suggests and make larger ones or just ones that are far more impressive than the standard \'trophy\' style display base you might be able to get something out of it.

I make my own. I made my last one out of the end of an ikea table leg sprayed black, I have made others out of mint packets :D

Although there are a few manufacturers doing them (Andrea ones are nice), not everyone knows where to get them from, so I think you should have a market on ebay.

The people that do the plastic ones (TyronMagda IIRC) used to do wooden ones too, but I think they dropped them as the plastic ones were far more popular

I buy mine from an online friend. Most of the others ive stumbled across are way too expensive for me.

Well if you know of manufactures making them, post them up, im picking up a router soonish so i can make my own, but the ones on the link that zordana posted are nice, i like them bigger myself, i dont like the 5x5 flat ones, their just... well.... boring i guess, as for the pvc ones, i like them too, but theres just something about a nice dark stained wood grain that i love, i think i might just knock up a few for myself, stain them and see how they go, prolly post some pics after im done, just simple, routered and stained bases :D

Besides, i need something to make my mini\'s look better than they are lol

I\'m looking to get one for a rackham dragon. Anyone know any good uk stockists or anyone on here care to make one. Needs to be quite tall with square sides. :D

Ive made high end wooden display bases for years as a custom service. A very small percentage of the hobby will pay for them and I find they end up being very good repeat customers..the other 99% will think anything more than a Dollar is too much.
