Here\'s a WIP of one of the above after a bit of \'Shopping:

This is where your tripod and bracketed exposures come in useful... :(

Yep. It does a proper job - well worth acquiring if you\'re into that sort of thing. You\'re buggered if anything moves mind. To do it properly you still have to sit and make a load of masks in Photoshop I reckon. I still piece exposures together manually in Photoshop as I rarely carry a tripod with me and almost never have a set of usable images. Must remember to shove my spare one in the boot of the car some time. It\'ll be less hassle to do with the programmable user settings on my 40D when it turns up as well. Liveview may well prove useful for shooting HDR as well - especially indoor.

Still not convinced about the look of HDR, but I\'ve got a feeling that it\'ll be the way forward as people\'s eyes grow acustomed to it. I see too many HDR images that are overcooked and look too \'bling\' for want of a better expression. False is the word I\'m after I think. Pretty sure there will come a time in the none too distant future when the camera sensor captures all the exposure info in one take and spits out an HDR image as a matter of course.

I\'ve also heard about a camera/lens in development that captures an entire range of depth of field settings and stores it as part of the meta data of the image file (or something similar). When you come to process the file, you would simply sit and choose the depth of field you wanted. Or mash a bunch of them together even.

Now when I were a lad....:D

I have a question about the filters. What size will I need? 55mm?

Oh, and a second question. I\'ve done a little research and it was suggested on one site not to use a UV and a CPL at the same time. Do you agree with this?

I\'ll be getting the camera in the next few days so you don\'t have much longer to put up with my newbie questions. lol

Must admit I\'m not a fan of HDR, though when it is done well it looks spot on. But most of the time I either see pics with huge amounts of contrast and the burnt out effect, or a very soft, almost de-saturated photo.

And almost all of them start bordering on the cartoony Dave Hill style.

But Il have to agree that Photomatix is much, much better for HDR than PS\'s merge to HDR function.
I\'v only used the trial but you get a lot more freedom mapping tones.
Another way I have done it, is take bracketed shots and place them all on separate layers and using masks to control the tones. But that takes a hell of a lot longer then photomatix.

Filter size varies by the lens. Check the thread size of your lens/es before you buy!

Only reason I use UV is as glass protection. Definitely only use one filter at a time - some people refuse to put any filters on their lenses, but I\'d rather not risk chunking the glass. Much cheaper to replace a 20 quid filter...

@Matty - problem with HDR is that it introduces so much noise into your images. You really can\'t use anything other than 100 ISO or you have to start heavily de-noising your pics which gives them that nasty soft look. I think the trick is to not overdo it. I\'m going to have a proper play just to see what I can get out of it....

I like this guy\'s stuff. Good tute on here as well...

See some of those HDR shots are excellent, especially the portraits. Simply because they don\'t look HDR\'d, the HDR has just been used in the processing subtly. (If you catch my drift...)

It\'s when you see a photo and instantly you know it is a HDR which I don\'t like. But the bloke put it well on his site:
\"It definitely has its uses, but as with everything too much of a good thing can be bad for you.\"

Matty - this http://www.vanilladays.com/gallery/2007/09/this_is_liverpool_ii/ is not what I would call subtle DR mate lol

p.s. has anyone else seen 7dayshop are doing 16GB CF cards for £89!

If I had a job I\'d buy 2 or so no questions asked!

B&W seems to work rather well in HDR, you don\'t get all those crazy blues and oranges.

Can\'t seem to find the Hama filters on Amazon. They only seem to have lens hoods. They have the Hoya ones, though. Well, some of them, anyway, either the cheap Haze or the SHMC pro ones.

Ok the city\'s got some good photogenic locations, but the rest he\'s \'tastefully\' ignored for his gallery.

I assume he\'d sell less stuff if he made the place look like a shit-pit!

Sounds as though you might enjoy that Mike - check out some of the reports for some good quality work (some crap as well mind!). Well worth a nose through and there\'re some right nutters who\'re willing to go to great lengths to get into places to get pics!

Odd, I thought I\'d looked everywhere for the Hama stuff. They\'ve got the 55mm one there, which would be for the Sigma macro. I need a 67mm for the Tamron, so I\'ll look on e-bay. I can get Hoya pro-1digital UV and cpl filters from amazon for £59.

Thanks. I\'ve just got to decide on which tripod and bag/case to get and total up the price, and then I\'ll be buying the stuff. I see what you mean about the krypton factor design on the Benbos.

Way back when the Benbo\'s first came out they were the Dog\'s Danglies with Extra Bells for Landscape photographers. (This was the 80\'s)
Only trouble was they cost a large amount of wonga at the time and weighed a bl**dy ton.
Now I can afford one I can\'t justify the expense for something I\'d only use very rarely............Ironic innit.

Scott Thanks for the link that\'s some interesting photos and a great resourse for painting urban decay as well.

When I re-read my comment it did look rather \"Off\" about Liverpool, but as I travel through it twice daily I get to see some of the Tourist \"Less-Friendly\" sights.
Plus I\'m fed up with the all the hyperbole, hypocrisy and hoohaa surrounding the \"Capital of Culture\" crap.

Okay, I\'ve come up with a couple of options for tripods. Tell me what you think.

http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=1000351

The handles give me the impression it\'s maybe more for digi video.

http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=1012862

At this stage I don\'t think I want to spend much more than what those cost.
