Not a big deal? It\'s been a big deal for me for well over a month now. Got ADSL in Feb, and it\'s a dream come true.
Corvus is right, you want something like Firefox. Your new found freedom comes with a lot of nastiness on the net, and Firefox is safer than IE. Make sure your firewall is properly configured and be more watchful and cautious than before.

Like Modderhu said, you\'re constantly on-line, which makes it very easy for spyware (and similar) applications to send/receive data, so a good firewall is a must have. I use the Windows XP SP2 one, which works just fine for me 
And Firefox is also a good way to avoid spyware in the first place.

with XP do you get it as a free upgrade?
Even better: a hardware firewall. I use one of those Netgear routers; router, ADSL modem, switch and firewall all together. I\'ve got two computers working off it, and I am well pleased that the firewall is neither of the computers. Heck, errant messages don\'t even get onto the LAN, never mind into one of the computers.
How is good old Telcom these days anyway? When I moved into a flat back in \'94 I couldn\'t even order a telephone installation because the department dealing with my area had recently moved into a new building and their phones weren\'t working! ETA for the phone company to get their own phones up and running : a week!
Then when I moved to London, for the longest time I was facinated by the fact that I could post a letter and (a) it would *always* actually get to the destination and (b) it would get there in a couple days.

I\'ve got a software firewall and a bunch of anti spyware (adaware, spyblaster and the microsoft one). Seems to be working so far.
I wanted a hardware router/firwall, but funds won\'t stretch at the moment.
And yes CMON is only a bit faster, but multiple windows all open faster instead of killing the download speed.

Broadband will allow you to do amazing things on Cmon.. like browse all the galeries, read the forums faster so you can post more, upload comics faster than.. oh, wait.. that\'s just me..
Seriously, after we got a cable modem, I wonder how we ever did without.. I go to school and I get bored while things are trying to load!

I was on 28.8 dial up for a while... after moving into my own apartment I decided to cut costs by using my employer\'s (university) dial-in access. Supposedly 33.6 but it never went above 28.8 and the free line kicked you out every hour. Even the \"toll modem line\" was slow as ass, and you paid by the hour for it to be slow. For some demented reason I suffered through that for a year or so until I bought a new PC... then the urge to play hot new multiplayer games was too strong And god, CMON was agonizing at 28.8. Even the most modest pic would take ages to load
My funding solution? Cancelled my cable TV and put the $ towards my new DSL bill! TV is all shite now anyway (ever since Buffy went off the air).

Congrats to u Trevor! It\'s like moving from a lada to a ferrari isnt it I have had adsl for about 4 years now, mines 2mb down & 0.5mb up too bad the prices in Finland are still very high, this connection costs me 50euros a month. The prices have dropped over 50% in a year, but they\'re still way too high oh and I\'ve heard that WOW is very addictive, so be careful..

a) CTRL and T opens a new tab, with the focus on the address bar, so just type and go! and
b) Middle click the link you want to open it in a new tab; saves right clicking.... therefore reducing stress on your mouse finger by 50%! Youll be thanking me in the years to come, you\'ll see!

Why run Firefox? I keep 5 or more copies of IE open so I can vote on multiple minis and browse the forums. I\'m not familiar with that app., does it use less resources or something????
WOW is evil! Blizzard will be the Death of tabltop games yet.
Don\'t get me wrong, I was addicted to all the Warcraft and Diablo games. Then WOW came out and for the first two weeks my LGS was like a ghost town! Now people are trickling back in, but they talk about WOW! I was having Comp. trouble at the time it came out, and I figured I\'d wait till I got a new Vid card. Now I\'m glad I didn\'t! Those guys are like on crack, and the employee at the store plays the most so people call him up while he\'s working and ask him questions. Now he gets annoyed when somebody calls to ask about models and other games! I got ticked off after he answered three telephone calls in a row and answered WOW questions. I was trying to place a large Reaper order and it was taking forever, so I told him he should just answer the phone \"Warcraft Central\". He didn\'t even get that I was being sarcastic.
Computer games are gonna kill off Tabletop games in a few years, and that will be a sad day for us all.
