Words I thought I\'d NEVER say - I liked an Anime!

To be fair, Disney\'s Beauty and the Beast was a landmark in digital animation for the west, but it is a while league different from their earlier works.

But I love Studio Ghibli, if we end up with another rabbit, I know Jay is naming it Totorro.

From another studio we saw Millennium actress over the hols, which is really beautiful animation and a fantastically overlayed storyline.
Then I got lent Pure Blue by the same director and really should have read the DVD box before watching.
I was rather shocked to come across a simulated rape scene and man being stabbed in the eye. The box would have told me it was a psychological thriller - studio ghibli is was not!

Probably because the movies are actually BETTER!

On another note, if you want something a little different to all the aforementioned, try Urotsukidoji. Legend of the Overfiend will certainly give you something to think about...

Initial D is good, the animation on the first series is terribad but the story is awesome.

Steamboy should be easy to find on DVD. My rubbish local DVD rental shop even used to have it on the shelves.

\"Perfect Blue\" is the English title I\'ve seen. A head f*ck of a movie if ever there was one. But very creative, and enjoyable if you can stomach it.

Briefly, a Japanese idol-singer (like a bubblegum pop singer) decides to get into acting, but discovers she has some weird obsessed fans who now hate her for abandoning her old image. She also starts to hallucinate another version of herself who seems to be stealing her existence, posting an alternate life on her website and appearing around her. And then there\'s her stalker...

Yes, there\'s alarming violence, and murder, and there\'s a simulated rape scene (she is an actress after all) but mostly there\'s strong, visceral tension. If it was filmed in live action it\'d probably be a cross-ocean cult classic by now.

It\'s really not all that bad at all! A nice twisty kind of plot which reminded me of Memento (although completely different).
Plus the title Perfect Blue has nothing to do with the film at all.

if you think perfect blue is bad keep your eye out for a seris called cool devices. my friend had a copy and lent it to me, i watch 1 episode and i turned it off, the entire series is based on the dark side of sexual experiances and taboo subjects dont know if the series is still running or not on dvd but stay clear of it

I\'ve watched the entire Death note series within the space of one week.... i was just hooked. The suspence, the intrigue, the action... just wow

FMA is great too, so are Howl\'s, Spirited away, steamboy and castle in the sky.

one name i missed so far though: \"Origine\" by Gonzo. great post apoc setting, cool mecha and really good music.
