work in prog Razagor chariot

hi all i said i `d post a work in progress this time rather than a finnished model in the hope of getting some pointers in regards to my painting , all comments welcome i do want to get better at the painting side of things. So here goes. This model i had orginaly bought with the idea that i could put 2 of them together for a chariot, but on a closer look at the rule book i could only use 1. And so it stayed on the shelf from it`s release date till 1 week ago when i started pinning and green stufing it. here it is so far.

I m trying to make it look like it is already charging over rough terrain or through a building.
Any pointers or comments welcome. i ll post more pices as i go along

I'm not familiar with this model but it looks like you've got quite a project! It appears you've started painting the chariot, correct? My suggestion would be to make note of the fact that different parts of the chariot are going to be made out of different types of wood. For example, the wheel hub, the spokes, and the wheel will all be different than the body of the chariot. The floor will probably be different from the sides of the chariot. So you're going to want to use different base colors rather than one. It appears as if you used one base color then dry brushed a lighter color but did it all the same over the entire chariot. The wheels and the spokes are going to be made out of hard wood and the sides of the chariot, lighter and more flexible wood. So I'd paint the hard wood a darker base coat and the sides a lighter color. Then adjust the highlights as needed depending on what colors you use.

Just an idea for ya.

I am working on a similar project. I found that painting the shields separately really helps you get them painted to a higher standard, while being able to access the straps on the chariot easier. But then I have no real idea what type of standard you are going for. As for the look of the wood, I think Kathyrn is correct, since the chariot looks to be a newly constructed warmachine. My chariot is meant to look aged, and like it has been in the forest for a while, so mine is gray, and will have moss growing on it. But yes, try to get different shades of browns going to represent the different types of wood. What will be the color scheme for the Beastmen riding this machine?

thanks guys on looking at the pics again i can see where i am going wrong with the wood.It would be made of different types in real life.( not just warhammer world ) i will adjust. kathrynloch is right I had just painted with the one color and highlighted. The shields yes i should have left till after i painted them,this is some thing that i made a mistake with a different project should be learning. i have to say i got a bit carried away with myself. It s a bad habit of mine racing into something.i also like the idea of aged along those lines i think i ll remove a spoke or so from the wheel and a small bit of chipping around the edges. MightyChad as for the color of The beast men i m not to sure about yet i relay like the idea of a blue fur scheme on the legs and shoulders and a nice pale skin tone. The idea is that these beastmen come down from the high blue ridge mountains ( yes i know rob the idea from a bottle of beer about 3 o clock in the morning ) and the blue almost frosty fur color helps them blend into the terrain up there for ambushing. I did a few beastmen a few years back using the color scheme from the beastman book brown and i never liked them so i never used them. I colour test a ungor first to see if i like it first i ll also post that pic.

Painting inspiration from all sorts eh? Yes a very good idea from kathrynloch I think - different coloured wood would look look really good I think...

ok i ve striped the chariot back down i have also taken the shields off to make painting the chariot easygoing, Another reason was i did not think they looked battle worn or old for that matter so i ve broken 1 given battle scars to all and i think i ll paint them with plenty of rust , i have been looking at different types of wood, in real life not modelling,so many shades. did a small bit of work on the base painted the roof tiles and the stone s , i went with a terracotta for the tiles and a grey to white ish for the stone, i also painted the cloth on the bret head piece it not finished but for the first time i think i am getting white right on cloth. i try to post pic s later weather to nice at the mo to be inside. Again thanks for all input lads it has made me slow down and the model is starting to look good because of it . Regards, Wamphyri

Good to hear Wamph! I can't wait to see pics! I like the battle damage and rust idea on the shields and the terracotta for the debris. Very cool!
