Work in progress for refreshed Tyranid color scheme

Hello all!

So I'm finally getting around to working on the color scheme I was referring to in this post: http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/showthread.php?50451-How-to-achieve-this-highlight-on-brown

I want to thank everyone for their excellent feedback in the previous thread, and without further pause, here's the start of my new Tervigon. The body is Vallejo Chocolate Brown, with the first shade being German Cam. Black Brown. I'm thinking of bringing the highlights up through English Uniform to US Field drab and/or possibly a touch of Stone Gray. Let me know what your feedback is so far, this is my first time using Vallejo's and I'm immensely impressed by how smooth they cover, if still getting used to their texture.

Please note in the photos only the head is shaded so far; the body is just base-coated.

Looking forward to hearing what you think! I'll have more highlights done by next week. Sorry for the poor photos of the head, it's a pain to get to photograph well.

I'm colour blind so not really gonna help with colours that much. That said, there is an actual work in progress forum (the one just below this one)

Oh, oops. :/ I didn't even notice that. Any way to get a mod to move the thread, or can I do that?

Some updated pics of shading on the hind quarters. Happy with how this is turning out.

same angle as above but more natural lighting... not sure which to continue with...

Any feedback appreciated. Also if anyone has any tips on how to photograph this thing I'd greatly appreciate it; the angles and shape of the model are making it a beast to find decent shots and/or angles.

Very smooth shading on the brown. Looking forward to seeing you continue on this one.
Will it be purple on the armor/scales?

yea, the armor will continue to be purple, and the muscles in the limbs will be red. I want to do something a little different for the birthing sac... just not sure what yet. :) It'll be red but distinguishable.

Okay... small update this time, and I think I'm running into a bit of a snag on how to continue with the skin.

I tried to use US field drab for the first highlight... but it looked awful and I had to paint over it. I went on to use stone grey mixed with chocolate brown and I think I have some success but I'm not sure. This isn't the final highlight, and it's just on the left leg and tail tip. No pictures of the tail because the leg shows the initial highlights far better for judgement, IMO. Also, it's just the tip of the tail, so I'm sure you guys can work it out!

Anyway... pics!

sorry for the pics looking a bit washed out. That's with me covering the model with my hand, with no flash, and it still came out super bright.

I'm considering using English uniform to better bridge the two, but I'm not sure. This was just some highlights I laid out to get a feeling for how it was progressing.

Wow it's been a while since I've been able to add to this... but I've not been idle, just busy. :)

Anyway, brown is now finished for the body, and I've got work done on the termagants on the front. Claws are started as well, but no photos yet. Hoping to finish the last few brown sections this week and get started on the carapace.

As always, feedback appreciated. Also, sorry for the slight bit of threadomancy.

Edited for reasonably sized photos. :p
