Update #3 - Wayfarer's Inn (Warhammer Scenery)

Hi folks, I'm reasonably new to CMON, so hopefully this is in the right place. Thought I'd keep a little progress thread for this scenery piece I'm working on for Warhammer fantasy. Any thoughts, suggestions, crits or feedback welcome!

Thanks for the kind words, folks! Now, the kids are asleep, long weekend ahead, time for a wee update...just finished adding cereal-packet bricks to the chimney stack. Chimney pots are made of sawn-off pencils, some spare nuts, and bits of clay. I didn't realise the clay would warp quite so much but hopefully it'll look ok when it's painted. Anyway, the mission continues.

Added a handle to the trapdoor on the roof:

Completed the basic structure. The idea is that the lower level was originally a stone fortification, but later occupants have been expanding upwards and outwards with wooden extensions.

The upper level is mostly finished on two sides. The far side is mostly blank, for now.

Some windows have leaded glass, presumably the owners were feeling flush at the time. Mostly though, wooden shutters are the order of the day. My son was disappointed that the shutters don't articulate...something to consider for next time! That's a window box on the left, I'll be putting some flowers in there eventually, but probably after the painting stage.

Nearly finished the construction part. I added a rather slipshod gantry on the chimney side of the roof. Partly because it was rather bare compared to the other side, and also to provide a convenient perch for Ogres and any other monstrous infantry that might want to garrison the building. It's not quite level, as you can see, but it's close enough for rock n'roll:

And here we see Golfgfag in a previous life, demonstrating the Ogre-worthiness of the ledge. An accomodating opponent might even permit the deployment of war machines on there, but I leave it to your imagination as to how one might get them up there:

Other than that, I've added a few variations of shutters:

Carving those little hearts was fun, but I'll need to go over them with a cut down emery board, I think:

Just a few niggly little things to fix now, and then I can get down to painting! If anyone could point me towards a decent tutorial on painting stone/brickwork, and/or roof slates, I'd be much obliged!

Haven´t seen this thread before, some very inspiring work here. Will add your thread to see the progress and too get inspiration.

Started painting in earnest yesterday. Unfortunately the colour of the blocks is a little uneven on the one of the walls, as I ran out daylight shortly after finishing the first side and mixed up another batch of paint under electric light. It looked fine under the lightbulb but you could see the difference the following day. Rookie mistake!

Nice progress. Just the basecoat helped tie all the bits together. I kind of like the darker shade you have going on the door side.

That looks fantastic! I love all the little details you've added. I'm looking forwards to seeing it fully painted.
