just curios and thought id post it here.. when im done repainting my tau... im thinking i might make a display scene for them.. how about do you go in making these? not so much the texturing and all that because that i know... what i really wanna know is how do you make them so the tops of the bases are flush? so really its more of how do you make the main peice?

@Klute: VERY slinky, nice!

@Ritual: Like everyone said, the sword looks great. I would go for a deep red for the cloak, or even a Royal Purple. Some thing \'warm\' to counter the \'cold\' metal. Maybe not blue. OR you could go for a Burnt Sienna, a dark redy brown (red Ochre/terracotta). That sort of thing..... ???

@Astonia
That\'s a good idea, but I won\'t be surprised if you sit the night before leaving for the event ripping your hair in frustration while trying to finish it! lol That\'s how I do things, at least. :D

@donga
Yeah, I don\'t think blue would work since the armour is quite blueish. I think I\'ll try out a bright red (maybe washed with some purple) and a brownish red and see which one looks best. But red it is! :D

@Ritual:

If you wash red with purple (ink or paint wash) it can do some very odd things. I think its something to do with the blue in the wash??? But give it a try ;)

Sorry, I haven\'t got any examples :rolleyes:

@ Ritual, as always your work is top notch.

@ Astonia that is a cool conversion of the skink model, realy like that one.

@ Klute I think that dress looks great I would have never thought of doing a dress in metallics.

Some great work going down here.

@ Wolf_Fang I usually do a little sketch of what I want a diorama to look like then try and find the bits to fit the sketch. Then on occaisions I just go with the flow and see what I come up with.

not so much the scenery what i really wanna know is making the recesses... what im thinking of doing is using 2 peices of wood 1 a small peice and just drilling the holes in the 1 peice the same thickness as bases and same size then spimple attaching it to the second peice and rounting out the sides and fancying it up.... thats the only way i can really think of doing it... that or using a spade drill bit and drill press

here\'s another WIP of my latest one

It\'s also the first time I\'ve tried something freehand, so I could use some input on that :)

Very nice Corvus :). The gold on the tabard is particularly good.

Here is Sorscha again (in a more usual view ;)):

I\'m planning on putting some grey camo on the coat and some scratches on the armor.

Ive done the hair and tweaked here and there.Ive washed the dress with a thin brown to tie in the highlights but Im not sure if the sharp silver highlight was better.

very cool gold!

That\'s some very nifty gold you have there!

Very shimmery... it reminds me of an Egyptian dress from the Mummy movies.

Great job on that:D

Klute -

I think the wash looks better, the dress looks more like a gold cloth, the silver highlight version looked to me (not sure why) more like she was wearing actual metal, if that makes any sense. I guess what I\'m saying is this version looks more like what i would envision when thinking of a gold dress :)

Thanks guys.
I think the dress looks ok either way,as a smooth gold now or before as a sort of starker sequined look.God I know what I mean:D

@Medved........shes 28mm I guess but very thin,and I meen very thin.Spyglass btw,Im a sucker for Steves ladies.

Cheers James......btw when are your next 10 minis due,the weekend.:D

used to be a Freak
X-mas Sophie

Hey folks,

Wanted to throw this up and get some opinions. I did this as a \"late\" X-mas present for a friend of mine. Wanted to see what you all thought. This is one of the Reaper Christmas Sophie miniatures. I think this is the 2004 Sophie. I\'m working on a snow base for this (the SnowTex is drying as I type this.) I was trying for an NMM gold on the boot and glove trim but it just didn\'t come out right. I really need to work on that. It was originally done in metallics but was just too bright. Anyway, love to get some feedback.

Thanks All!

Cheers,

if the metallics are too bright wash them
then wash them again
after youve done that wash them even more
now you can finally ... wash them one more time! lol
i like to wash gold with a brown to black and perhaps a light jade green finish
to bring back the original gold look (since it will more look like really weathered copper or soemthing) i give it a glaze of snakebite leather ... or perhaps 5 glazes :)
it give you a nice golden hue on your metallics
but i think the brown as it is looks fine, good work on that.
i dont think that it would look better in metallics or nmm.
her skirt and skin are lovely too, really give you that hot female santa feeling we all know ... we do, dont we :] ?
by the way i looovvveeee that mini and all other sohpia minis that were ever produced.
if i wouldnt be so incedible bad in painting females i would have bought all of them :(

Another update to my chaplain

Firstly I must add a disclaimer, my camera or lighting set up or maybe just life conspiring against me means that all the greenstuff looks about as rough as a gravel road. When in fact it is very smooth, I suppose the pictures do look a little worse as I have scraped and then sanded the greenstuff which has disrupted the overall appearance. The hole in the cloak has also been fixed.

The base still needs much work as the sliver of plasti card will eventually become a rock.
Tell me what you think.
