WIP - Any pointers?

Hi there, some lovely works in this thread, that techmarine looks awsome!

Anyway, its been a while since my last painting spurt, so here\'s what I\'ve got on painting tabe at the moment...
grandmaster.jpg

It needs a bit more cleaning up and so forth but I\'m not sure what else to do, so any suggestions or improvements would be much welcomed. Its not intended to be a Demon paintjob, just a nice HQ figurehead for my army...

Cheers

Nice work there Jas.As for improvements, the metal looks good but maybe a little thick,I always find it hard thinning metallic paint.Put some mithral in with the gold for some edge highlights on the gold. The base rock,I would use some dark brown, green and black washes to give it alot more depth and colour.Im assuming you will be putting something else on top of the plastic base viewable.

I greatly repect Klute\'s artistic judgment but I would say, don\'t feel that covering the entire circular surface of the base is absolutely necessary. Your current approach is simple but effective.

Wurzag - Its the limited edition one only available from direct sales, not sure if you can still get him but I would guess so.

Your probably right ProvokeMe. I can see a Space Marines armour being scratched, but rust implies that it hasn\'t been repaired in a long time, wich isn\'t really their bag.

This covers the scratches and dings to a tee and it is on what you are doing I think.
I used it for the stress lines in the leather as well
EDIT
Tim I updated you WIP cause this one is just too good to waste ...( if you upload single pictures here not spliced I can pull your work from with out distortions) BTW peeps one of Tidico\'s gallery lives

Here
his work is the bomb and we are proud to have him there :D

Klute I got the power.....DaVinci Brush arrived today thank you I can not believe the quality and the size of this brush... as you can see I broke all of my sucked brushes to fit under the magnifying light. I posted pictures of most of my wip also but the shark project I can not show :~(
Thank you Klute for sharing this ( Dick Blick Art Materials had the brush here in the states shipped 2 days). New sculpting set from gale force nine is great as well two sided tools more than I will know how to use really great quality highly recommend

I got mine from Ralfmetal when he was visiting his family in my home town.Swapped a couple for a can of dullcote. He got them through working as a dental technician, who use them to paint colourations on dentures, hairline cracks and such.
He got some on back order and Im going to get some more and I will let you and him know.A google might bring up an online retailer like Tracy did.Im sure Tracy would get some and post them over for you.

Did I say they really are the mutt nuts.:D

OK heres a little something Ive been messing about with. Its going to be a vampire bust.Ive got the main structure done and some tweeking and detailing is still to do.Its about 60mm tall and done with sculpy.I decided to make a more cartoon look to get the feel of the clay before trying something anatomically correct, one step at a time I reckon.
I am really,really enjoying doing this,more than painting:D

@Klute... nice! I like the smoothness you achieved on the neck and face, though I honestly don\'t really like the overall shape of the head. It just seems way too \"cartoony\" to be a very menacing vamp. Just my opinion of course... But you sure seem to have a great grasp of the sculpting technique. If you haven\'t already, you might want to check out some anatomy books before you do a \"realistic\" sculpt - inaccuracies will stand out much more at large scale than 28mm.

Yeh ,Im aiming for way over the top cartoony look.Thats on purpose just to get a feel for the stuff.I will most definately be looking up anatomy in the future.

This is the larest WIP of my Palladin mini, damned work intruding on my painting, anyway hopefully I should have it about finished for tomorrow night. I am quite pleased with the overall look of the mini thus far. I decided not to go senmm on the thigh armour as there are too many plates and I think it would overpower the mini and I may yet go the same way on the armour around the shins and feet but will have an experiment first.

I changed the weapon a bit horizon wise and I do agree with you Mark it looks much better. I know the mini is a little lop sided but that will be sorted out on completion it is also due in part to the way it is fixed to the plastic lid that I am using to hold it with. Hope you all like it so far.

Looking good Tim.I would lift the horizon line on the top and bottom blades to match the apex of the outside edge.It looks a little low on the edge and high in the middle.
I would also do the other armour in senmm its looking so good, you could always go over it.
