Working with barbed wire?

Hi there, I\'m going to be putting the GW barbed wire on the bases of my Imperial Guard army. I was just wondering if anyone had tips of making it look good and realistic.

Thanks!

I drybrushed the GW stuff with snakebite leather, and it has a great rusty look.

Here is what iv used it on http://www.coolminiornot.com/150435

But i didn\'t prime it first, to save the hassle of painting it silver again.

Hasslefree sells some good looking brass etched barbed wire. It looks much better than the stuff GW sells (which looks more like some sort of cabling, IMO).

HF BARBED WIRE

I have this stuff and it looks great!

Here how I do it
1) Prime black
2) Overbrush scorched brown. If you still see black through don\'t worry. Unless you barbed wire was just out of a factory it will be rusty and uneven

3) Drybrush some orange, not to much you don\'t want it actually to become orange

4) Drybrush in patches depending on effect desired either scarb red of some dark blue

end result is here

Having just spent the last almost three years surrounded by barbed wire, concertina wire, and razor wire, I can beyond a doubt tell you that the new stuff is gavanized or made of stainless steel (razor wire) and does not rust.

This is actually interesting point. I’m working in the building that is quite heavily razor wired and this thing doesn\'t rust indeed, it becomes dark gray with time.

On the other hand, I remember a number of sited in some foreign country with a barbed wire that was probably there since before I was born. That stuff was distinctively rusted and very brown.
Granted, it was so rusted in places that I managed to break it with bare hands one time (don\'t try this at home;))

Although 40k is set, as suggested, in the 41st millenium, and as such, there is a great prevalence of high technology, there is also a great deal of low-technology too (Think of the paradoxical ork technology! lol)

Either due to restricted resources, funds, or the loss of knowledge caused by the \"Age of strife\".

So it is entirely plausible (Given the fluff) that a high-tech marine could find himself on a 19th Century tech-level world, with rusty steel wire, and Krieg guardsmen throwing stick grenades. :p
